The "download" when people join

What's that download (%) about when people join a game?

I really don't get it, someone care to explain? Thanks.

You know how you get that loading screen with the progress bar whenever you join a game? I'm assuming that corresponds to the % the people that are already in the game see.

I'm not sure it's download. I think it's their PC loading all the server stuff. A slow load on that initial % bar, usually corresponds to a slow load on the "load race" screen.

From what I've been told, the first load (To get into the chatroom) is loading the map and items, etc.
The second load (the "race") loads the specific heroes who are being used.

That cant be correct, if you ever remade a game you would know the load times are close to instant even if different heroes were chosen.
