View Full Version : Targetting spells across fissures

I don't know if this is me imagining things, but there's something SERIOUSLY wrong with this. I've noticed it a few times with target area spells across fissures. In a recent game, the enemy was attacking our middle base entrance and we were D-ing up. Our Behemoth landed a great fissure locking them all in our base.

The problem being I, Torturer was outside the base from the Secret shop and I wanted to go stun everyone while they were getting messed up by all our AOE stuff. I clicked to do his AOE stun right across the fissure line and my hero (who even had phase boots) decided to walk AROUND the entire base to the bottom entrance and would not just walk up TO the fissure and cast the spell across it.

So, casting across fissures seems really buggy with pathfinding/etc. Is this just me, or have other people come across it?

You were out of range when casting your stun and you could not find a path around to get in range. By the way you want to be inside your base as lesh so you can spam your nuke to harras the heroes as they push and get them lower for a team fight. Then again I am not surprised by your battle decision due to the logic of your post.

You do not know the reason why he was at the secret shop, and it's not on-topic either.

Magnakasar, you are indeed right, and not imaginating things, and I agree that the pathing shouldn't do it like that. I'm pretty sure it wasn't like that in Warcraft 3 either, as it definitively does not feel right, and I've played Warcraft 3 for many years (not DotA though)

This should really be changed, imo :)

I was badly positioned I know, but that still doesn't answer why when I try to stun someone DIRECTLY on the other side of a fissure with phase boots popped my hero decides to take a round trip instead of casting the spell I was ALREADY in range of doing.

You want to be conservative with your pathing assignments when it comes to having the Unitwalking property and attempting to cast spells that require that property. Units do not always path with respect to the Unitwalking property unless you make it explicit. In that scenario, you should have told Torturer to move directly to the Fissure and stand where you would like to be standing while casting your stun, then actually casting the stun.

1. Phaseboots were never meant to have the ability to walk through fissure.
2. Fissure is a temporary terrain.
3. If you're not in range of being able to cast on the target, your hero will be issued the move command until it is.
4. If there is a terrain blocking a hero's movement, it would try to find another path.
5. Until it has been issued another command it won't stop.
6. You were shopping. lol
You'd think after a while of playing people would get the point.

That's the thing, I was already in position to cast, it didn't work.
