I once played a game where I was pebbles. The enemy has already pushed into our base, so I decided to try backdooring:D. Well the enemy sent Scout to defend and when Scout got back to the base, I TPed out. However, just when I began TPing, Scout aimed his marksman's shot at me, and even though I teleported back to base before he could shoot, I just happened to be within the line of sight of several enemy creeps. At first I thought i was safe, but suddenly, a deadly green arrow flying at 1000mph flew across the map and struck my rock solid hide, thus shattering me into a thousand pieces as well as leaving another death mark on my account.

Just wondering how far marksman's shot can go. I know that you have to be within about a 1000 distance to lock the shot and that you must have constant vision on the targeted unit, but it seems that as long as you have line of sight, you can always hit the target, regardless of how far it is. And seriously, the arrow which killed me looked like a long range homing missile as it sped across the map.

Anyone help?

You pretty much explained it yourself, except for the "locking the shot" part.

1500/2000/2500 casting range. Once you cast it you just need constant vision and it'll launch. I'm unsure of whether or not the enemies need to stay in the casting range though. In DotA, the shot cancelled if the target moved out of Assassinate range

If you move, when the arrow is on it's way it will follow. I saw my arrow doing this when some person used portal key, it was funny though.

Yes.

That happens with many projectiles like towers too, I have noticed. It seems rather counter-intuitive...

Sometimes the auto tracking in this game works a bit too well, for example like after blinking or teleporting away from the shot.

Well you can always go out of line of sight of the person before it launches to avoid it. Doesn't it cancel then?

yes, but that's not the issue. The issue is that the projectile followed him after he teleported. So it was like maybe halfway to him, he teleported to base and it turns to fountain and hits him and kills him cause he doesn't heal fast enough.

Funny...
Will be good if projectile the stray from the goal if the target is gone/blinked etc..

No, he's saying that because there were creeps in his base that had a line of sight, the scout didn't fire until after he was in his fountain, implying that as long as you have A) Constant line of sight and B) Were within range to start charging up the shot, you can hit anyone from anywhere, even from one side of the map to the other.

He fired the arrow at a target on the other side of the map. Seems dumb to me.

No. The projectile(arrow) has already been fired when he teleported.

If you ult as swift blade and they teleport during it you will follow them to their fountain.

Ya ... it's pretty simple. I think they added something to "fix" this in Dota.

Line of sight is not a problem, as long as you "start" the cast (Scout ulti is similar to the Sniper's ulti).

Try it in dota. You target them and click, you start "casting" the spell ... and even if they are in fog or not, it will still continue.

If you teleport, it will still follow you, that is why somethings in Dota (Enchantress' ultimate - which deals damage over distance has a limit of 250?) People use to get the blink dagger, shoot the dude while he was running and blink the opposite direction to deal a huge amount of damage.

It is supposed to follow you, because it's first target was when you were only ~2500 distance from the hero but when you teleport and the projectile is already on it's way to you, it will still follow you.

Just the quirks of dota working here. Nothing new. Also you shouldn't have such low health when you know someone is probably is going to come and eat you.

The coolest thing I've seen to do with activating targeting skills and distance was in DotA.

Was playing Phantom Lancer, used the slow + image skill shot it off, The hero died before the lance hit, so the lance continued forward (I was on bottom lane aiming towards middle lane) 3 seconds later I see on the map I have an image on middle land then I noticed I got a kill lol. It was epic.

Was kind of off topic I think ^^"

OT: Yea there are some skills that have a hell of a tracking system lol. But some skills are like normal attacks, and gets the too far in red text when you port away.

Hehe.
By the way, I think i teleported before scout shot his arrow, but since i was in LOS, the arrow was successfully launched anyways.

i've once seen in dota when sven threw his hammer to teleporting furion and the hammer followed half the map to hit furion.

How do people even necro threads? Do they like sift through the last few pages and randomly respond to 1?
