View Full Version : Chipper Ultimate
Chipper's ultimate is Magic, not Superior magic, and should not go through magic immunity. Damage is blocked, but When staff is bought, "Snare" goes through shrunken and any other magic immune skills.

Think thats intended, like tempests ulti still locks the heroes getting near it but just doesnt dmg.
If it was supirior magic, the saw should damage too, thats whats the supirior means, like when pupp could dmg through jeris ulti/repel.

not true... tempst ultimate is superior magic, which means it catches them regardless of magic immunity or not, but this one is not superior magic...
and superior magic for the most part wont damage already immune units, although it will still "hit them" which is why plague's ultimate would jump on predator without hurting him.

As far as i know (And think) "Snare" is a condition and not a magic, shruken works to block MAGIC and if SUPERIOR MAGIC it only blocks their damage (Succ's ult, tempest's ult etc only apply their effects like disarmed, perplexed and, in succs case, stunned and mana drain), you may try that on practice mode, still, this thread is better related to the gaming mechanics imo.

again for the 100th time because people do NOT seem to understand this... i would not have a problem with it ifi it was superior magic, since that goes through magic immune units and thus effects will be applied even if damage sometimes wont (cuz its magic dmg)
However when an ultimate like chippers, which is NOT superior magic acts like superior magic slowing people with magic immunity on contact, then something is wrong.
For example Wretched hag's ultimate is also magical like chipper's ultimate, and would apply haunt to target which slows and damages per second. Now since its only magic and not superior magic, hag's ultimate has no effect whatsoever on target, not slowing nor damage, yet chipper's ultimate is allowed to slow units ? how is it different than superior magic then?
and i even tested with void tal, to see if it was phsyical snare, but unit still got affected.

Seems like you just agreed with all i have said. Haunt on Hag's ult is a MAGIC since its an effect that comes AFTER the ult itself, this way neither ult dmg nor Haunt are applied.
The magic immunity only blocks magic effects like damage, the snare is physical (Its a chainsaw cutting your legs) then it goes through MAGIC immunity :P
No need to be rude, even worst when you agree with what i just said.

was not being rude or anything, i just get your answer everywhere and people dont even realize that not all ultimates are superior magic, also if you read my edit, i tried void tal, and it would still snare, so its not phsyical either.. should we call it the almighty effect ?

Its just an effect like perplexed,silenced etc ;)

preplexed, silenced etc are not almighty, they dont go through magic immunity, seeing as they are applied through a magic skill or item which wont activate on immune targets... i'm just guessing that they didn't think it through when they added the snare to the ulti, probably didnt add any affinity and thus it stands with 0 way of countering.

It's intended, AFAIK. The slow is applied once from an aura state provided by the linear gadget that is spawned:
<aura state="State_Chipper_Ability4" radius="100" duration="1000" targetscheme="enemy_units" />
Also, the state application has no effect type:
<state
name="State_Chipper_Ability4"
icon="icon.tga"
passiveeffect="effects/state.effect"
deniable="true"
effecttype=""
>
<oninflict>
<damage effecttype="Magic" amount="100,200,300" source="source_owner_entity" />
</oninflict>
<onframe>
<damage effecttype="Magic DOT" amount="75,125,175" b="frametime" op="mult" source="source_owner_entity" />
</onframe>
<modifier key="ult_boost" modpriority="100"
displayname="true"
passiveeffect="effects/state.effect"
>
<oninflict>
<damage effecttype="Magic" amount="100,200,300" source="source_owner_entity" />
<applystate name="State_Chipper_Ability4_Slow" duration="4000" />
</oninflict>
</modifier>
</state>

Moving for S2 to decide if the boosted ult(from SotM) is intended to be Superiror(and therefore tooltip needs correcting) or it's a bug.

Just going to tag it as superior magic for the SOTM ult to end the debate. It's working as intended
