View Full Version : How does the Attack ground thing work?

I was playing with soul stealer and i used shroud then after i ulted i attacked the ground immediately after. Does it target closest enemy(neutral) unit or does it go for something that is attacking you or that is in range?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Side question: if you do attack the ground and nothing is in range do you go to the place you attacked the ground with or will it go to the closest unit outside your range?
If you attack ground (A+Click) it will attack everything nearby (closest to farthest) until you get to your destination (the point where you clicked).
If you A+Click the ground while there are no enemies nearby, your hero will continue to the destination with the intent of attacking anything in range. So if an enemy walks into your attack range as you are going to your destination, your hero will attack the enemy then continue to go to the destination (assuming that you killed the enemy and didn't use any other commands to cancel your a+click).

What's the chase range, if any?

Chase range?
If what I think you're saying is correct, it'll be till enemy goes into fog.

Hero X is going from point A to B with attack ground command and enemey hero, Hero Y, enters his line of sight. Hero X will obviously attack Hero Y as he has been commanded to do. To do so he must close in on Hero Y. Hero Y runs away but stays within Hero X's LOS and within the fog o' war. Hero X chases Hero Y to attack it more. How much will Hero X chase/attack Hero Y until it will continue onto point B?

until Y is dead or enters the fog. im not sure what'll happen if something comes closer than it, but i think X will continue chasing Y.
but you should be in manual control by that point anyway :/

When you attack-move, even when the enemy is not within your current attack range, you will still chase him. It is called aggro range (most noticeable in melee neutral camps)

This isn't strategy forums, I'm attack moving. If what you say is true then an enemy could essentially maintain LOS until you chase it to enemy fountain or wherever?

I think that's correct, although very unlikely.
I'm also not 100% sure whether you will switch targets if enemy Z gets closer to you than enemy Y, but I'm pretty sure you continue attacking/following Y.

Testing in practice mode:
Any hero with attack-move ordered towards an enemy hero will chase either until the enemy is out of sight, or until another enemy comes closer. (Buildings are ignored)
So for the 'chase to enemy fountain' question - Yes, it is possible. As long as no other enemy hero or creep interferes.

Mind that "attack ground" got the standard targeting (yes, this is screwing up my last hits :( )
It will not only prioritize close over far away targets, but also use the 'given' prioritizing -
ex if you attack ground a catapult, and a standard creep gets in your range, you'll switch.

This shouldn't really happen if you are last hitting. If you position yourself in such a way that the closest creep to you is the creep you want to last hit, and then you attack the ground, you should attack that creep once and kill it (since you are last hitting). There is a difference if you are auto-attacking, cause you are not focusing on last hitting.
Also, switching targets like you said is more common if you are ranged than if you are melee. As melee, you are usually as close as you can be to the target already, so nothing can get closer to you to make you switch targets. Not the case with range.
i always A+mouse1.. ill try to help.. what i know is when im at well and i A+mouse1 at a far point lets say 1st tower and there are creeps battling there, what happens is i walk there as if i used mouse2 then attack nearest enemy unit, sometimes it does a creep deny when i arrive there, i think i accidentally commanded a deny..
A+mouse1'ing is better than mouse2'ing to attack cause i sometimes do a walk command instead of an attack.. so there goes scout with 10 HP..
