View Full Version : Interface Suggestion List
Alright I thought I'd write some stuff down that seemed odd for me / that I would like to see in the game. Most of the stuff concerns the interface/chat of the game, I left all the gameplay stuff out. Some of the stuff may seem useless, and as such its priority shouldn't be that high. Feel free to add suggestions.
MAIN MENU
- When I log in and I can reconnect to a game and click RECONNECT, I won't be able to access the CC. I usually ignore that popup just because I can't access the CC. I rather join games via friendjoin right now because of that.
- The message on the exit dialog (Are you sure you want to leave?) is in the upper left corner in its own bar. This should be centered right above the buttons. That is how dialogs are usually done. (Bogo)
http://divzero.at/jsix/asdf/quit.jpg
--> Move that button the other way around. It should be Quit <-> Cancel (Thanks mejobloggs)
OPTIONS
- When we rebind a key, give us a popup indicatign what key we just made unbound. Sometimes I don't know that I just bound that function to a key that was already in use, thus leaving the other function that is now unbound very sad.
- DONE: Give us a 'Always Show Healthbars' entry in the options. Having to toggle Healthbars on and off everytime we restart HoN is tiresome business.
- Give us a 'Show FPS' Option (see below)
- I know I won't get it but never the less: DIFFERENT options for different scroll speeds. If i move the cam with the cursor keys there should be the possibility to have it zoom slower/faster than when I move to the edge of the screen OR click the middle mouse button. Reason why I don't think I'll get it is because this was BADLY needed for Savage 2 but still I had to QQ because I didn't get it.
- Allow us to disable the swear filter.
DONE: - Save settings before patching. It's cruel to make us rebind each time we update.
- Allow us to disable the narrator voices, I can imagine some people find those annoying.
- Add an option to hear yourself during voicetest (Thanks JoNa)
LOBBY
- There should be a "Reconnect" button in the Lobby itself. I don't wanna have to relog just to reconnect. I know you can just right click a friend and joingame, but it would be better if there was a button. (Possibly indicating how long time is left to reconnect)
- DONE: Right now the playerlist in the lobby does not differ between players that are in the lobby, in a game lobby or playing a game right now. Could we have some sort of indicator telling us if that player is playing right now? If you right click you can only invite those that are not in a game. Visual indicator would be great.
- DONE 1.30: When you mouse over "No Leavers" the text gets blue. Why do all the other options NOT get blue? All the options in View Advanced get blue too, just not those in the All Heroes/etc. box.
- Could we have a button in the game lobby that leads us to Options? Right now we have to logout to access the Optionsmenu.
- When right clicking a player in the chat/playerlist it would make sense if I could unclick the rightclickmenu by clicking anywhere with a mouseclick. Right now it only goes away if I click in the playerlist (both right and leftclick) - make it so that it goes away if I click ANYWHERE.
- Add a button to bring the CC panel to the front. Right now we can only click F6, a button in the lobby would make sense. (Bogo)
CHAT
- Perform-Option for Chat: Auto-join certain channels when logging in.
- Ability to turn off the chat filter.
- DONE: Add a right click ignore.
- When I click ENTER and the mouse focus is not on chat, I want it to jump to the chat. It takes some time to point the mouse to the chat window. Same for /
- DONE: When typing /r it would be good if that /r is automatically converted to /w PERSON - PERSON being the one that last wrote me. Sometimes my /r will go to the wrong person because someone else whispered me just because I entered. That way I have a visual indicator who I'm writing to. It is like that in ... WC3? Not sure though.
- Add [Tab] functionality after /r to tab though the nicknames of the last lets say 3 or 5 people that whispered. (Thanks urai)
- Indicators like AFK to indicate if a person is AFK for longer than 10 minutes / Ready to Play / Busy (Thanks Avi1231)
- Join New Channel: Let us sort the channels by name and usercount. It's already irritating right now with that huge amount of channels.
- Indicator for activity in chat channels: Let us see if there's new stuff happening in the chat channels! Make channels that have new stuff to read for example have a red background
http://divzero.at/jsix/asdf/channellist.jpg
- DONE: Timestamps! -> There's still no timestamp on SENT whispers though.
- The ability to view IM's as whispers in game rather than having to hit F6 to view them. (Thanks Garadin)
- When selecting text via shift, display the selection (picture coming)
- Allow us to select text via mouse (click at one point, hold mousebutton, release at end)
- Add a timestamp to sent whispers
- Add a 'Manage Channel' button to manage the chat channel - a visual options window for the chat, in which you can access stuff like topic, bans, authorizations and so on - so that we don't have to do all that stuff in chat itself.
- Ability to invite users to certain channels (just like inviting players to a game)
- Allow us to disable having to join the Match #### channels (Thanks Ebenger_)
- Give us an option to make double clicking a user in a chat invite that user, not chat to him (useful when u wanna mass-invite people) - however make that an option, not a must. (Thanks MakkuZ)
GAME LIST
- DONE 1.30: Add Hover-Info for the icons (I know it's described in the window to the left, but it would make sense to show some hover-info when you move your mouse over the icons themselves)
http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=67&stc=1&d=1246365923
- The text indicating "Click View Advanced below..." only has the word "View" in yellow. The button itself says "View Advanced"
- It would be good if we could get more info on a match (for example via right clicking it): 1) Some kind of 'Scoreboard' which displays the distribution of players on the teams 2) Which advanced options are in, right now we have to join to find out (no reset timer yay!) (Thanks gadabyte)
DONE: - Can we have an option to filter out full games? (Thanks gadabyte)
- DONE 1.30: The ability to filter *out* certain games based on type. I can filter on *only* EM games, but I can't show only games that are not EM. (Thanks Garadin)
- Could we have a filteroption for K/D/A stats? Or generally stats, not just noob/all/pro.
- Allow us to filter on countries - possible FLAGS for certain country-online games. Language <3 (Thanks Wihl)
- When hovering over the Advanced Options in the game list, show us which options are enabled (Thanks Elaeli)
- Allow us to filter out games based on pings. <XXms (Thanks croco)
CREATE GAME
- Add a better way to select maps. Right now it's working, but I can only imagine what will happen if we got 20+ maps. It would be great if we could add a indicator for how many players that map is made for (1v1/2v2/3v3/4v4 maps will be coming), a preview of the minimap could do well.
- When creating a game, the "Automatic" option for choosing servers almost never chooses the server that I have the lowest ping to. (Thanks gadabyte)
- Let us save settings or automatically take the last picked settings. Save those. Maybe let us have presets? (Bogo)
- When enabling the Advanced Options, we cannot hide them again. (add a button "Hide Advanced" just like in the serverlist)
CC PANEL
- Add a Banlist Tab that gives you access to your banlist (similar to the friends feature)
- It would be great if we could move the "Recently Played With" and "Find In Current Game" freely around.
KINDA DONE: Game time will be shown when you check a user's status - Add a right click option to the friendsmenu so that we can see the stats of our friends games. Stuff like duration, kda, towerslost.
- Use different colors for friends in game lobbies vs. friends in games that are in progress so you know whether or not to attempt to join a game your friend is in. (Thanks Garadin)
- Possibly allow a mouseover of a friend that is in a game show the name of the game he is in (to find out if multiple friends are in the same game etc.) (Thanks Garadin)
- On the 'Recently Played With' there is a button saying 'Add' - change it to 'Add Buddy' to make it more clear what that button is doing.
- The Recently Played With and Find In Current Game windows are badly implemented. When you have the Stats Tab open you don't realize that it's already opened and you think you bugged the game.
IM
- Online/Offline indicator for the IM window (see if the person you're writing to is ON/OFF)
http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=93&stc=1&d=1246534835http://divzero.at/jsix/asdf/ONOFF.jpg
- DONE: Could we get a timestamp option?
- When closing the last IM window (the little X next to their name) close the whole Send a Message window. Right now all chat windows will be gone but the parent-window will stay (empty).
- Let us rightclick the names.
GAME LOBBY
- KINDA DONE 1.30 (PSR): Add an average K/D/A to each team to make balancing the teams easier.
- KINDA DONE 1.30 (PSR): Add some stats that are being calculated on average of each player. Again, makes it easier to balance teams.
- When selecting between ALL/TEAMCHAT the option of "Team" is partly offscreen.
- Make players rightclickable (you can right click them at the playerlist next to chat, why not on the teamslots?) -> same goes for spectators/referees
DONE: - Ability for Gamehost to kick players that are still loading and/or haven't picked a team yet.
- Make the default chat ALLCHAT instead of TEAMCHAT when joining a game.
- When joining a game have the focus set to the textbox (chat), this gives us a better / faster method to chat.
- Currently checking stats is a difficult task. You can either right click the person and click view stats, or type /stats name. Could we have a possibility to make this easier? Like, toggle between the players via the up and down keys? Or have HOVER info over the player when we move over his slot in the game lobby? (Thanks 'human insane' with insane lower/upper case name combination)
- DONE: The kick button is somewhat bugged, hovering over it will trigger sound every millisecond rather than once. It doesn't seem to work either. (Thanks gadabyte)
- DONE: The host can currently kick himself when he joined a team. (Thanks gadabyte)
- DONE: A game start countdown similar to WC3 would be pleasant. Implementation: When the host press START, the countdown begins. If a player should leave during that countdown, the countdown is canceled and the host can wait until the game is full once again. Players should be unable to leave DURING the countdown, but this would prevent evil leavers that hit the dc button in the exact same moment the host pressed start. Another possibility would be to allow the host to cancel that countdown himself. (Thanks Jayblah)
- In private games people are only able to join the game by getting invited. This is not obvious for hosts that are new to the game. Add a window that states that he has to invite people, with a textbox to invite them. (Bogo)
- Add a button "view stats" - instead of having to right click, we'd click that button, and that players stats would be shown in a window thats always visible, instead of having to get rid of the CC again we could check stats way faster (Thanks LatexNinja)
HERO SELECTION SCREEN
- DONE: Add a visual indicator for whos turn it is to pick (Randomdraft)
- DONE: Add a visual indicator for whos speaking via VOIP (currently there is one in the gamelobby and ingame, but not in the heroselection screen)
- Add the option to unready. Right now it's possible to type unready in console, but not without the console.
- When I'm a spectator, it would be interesting to see some of the stats during this phase rather than hero placeholders. Stuff like amount of STR/AGI/INT heroes, KDA/WL ratios. Basically some intel so that I know what to expect.
- Let us right click the portraits of allies/enemies so we can check their stats, IM and so on. (Thanks Chief)
- Right now a host is still seeing the KICK icon in the hero selection screen, why?
- Currently there is no possibility to disconnect from this stage of the game rather than typing disconnect in console. Would it be possible to have that? It has to be restricted though. Only when it's 4v5 or some other unfair lineup the button should be visible IMO, to prevent leaving prior the game has started (Thanks FluffyM)
- Make the "Ready" button during Hero selection blink or flash when a Hero has been picked but the player has not readied for 20-30 seconds to remind them that they need to click this. (Thanks Porterhead)
DONE: - When in SD, make it visible to me what 3 choices my allies have (by hovering over their portrait for example. (Thanks kis)
- In the Singledraft mode hero selection screen, the order of the hero types is AGI, INT, STR. This is confusing because everywhere else in the game the order is STR, AGI, INT. (Thanks Casai)
GENERAL
- DONE: Scrollbars in the general Lobby/Heroselectionscreen have this button in the middle (see left side of picture), while the game lobby screen doesn't show that button (see picture to the right)
http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=66&stc=1&d=1246365568
- Pressing F7 and some other F-Keys will show some devtools. I always hated those because back in Savage2 I didn't know I could just get rid of them via ESC. Remove those binds and make them bindable. Unbound by default.
- It would be good if we could bind a key to show the FPS. There is host_drawFPS 1 - make it visible in the options.
- Dual Monitor support: It would be nice if we could get dual monitor support, where the 2nd monitor is being used to display the CC panel (that way a 2nd monitor doesn't give you any advantage ingame, but rather makes things easier. That way we can keep up with IM's and chats while playing without having to flip open the screen covering the game. (Thanks faille)
- Tray notifications: When HoN is minimized, give us little popups that display us whispers and gameinvites. (Thanks Jayblah)
- Pressing ESC should close the active window, for example IM windows, game list, and so on.
- The Endofgamescoreboard should be shown outside of the game. Often we get kicked out during a nice score-read (Thanks Wihl)
- More detailed stats (Graphs and such stuff?) (Thanks Wihl)
- Add a Join Game button to the popup that appears when a friend joins a game (Thanks Knotfil)
- DIfferent Colors for people on your Friendlist if they are in a Lobby or if the game has begun. So you can easily see if a friend is playing or if he's waiting to get his game filled up. (Thanks seriousdelta)
INGAME
- DONE: Add an option (easy to reach) to toggle cg_unitPlayerColors (allies green, enemies red)
- Make cg_unitPlayerColors effect the minimap.
- Make playercolors glow a bit more. Or at least make it an option.
- Make allies glow blue, not green. That green ain't so pretty.
- It would be great if we could set the teamcolours on our own (the green and red with cg_unitplayercolors) - if you want your team to be pink and the other team blue, go for it.
- Make it more obvious who's talking via VOIP. I sometimes muted the wrong person because I didn't know who was THAT annoying. Make edges of the portrait glow or similar instead of just a tiny bubble. (Thanks Wihl)
- When a person is muted and is speaking (you can't hear him) the game will still lower the gamevolume, even though you can't hear him.
- Add tooltips to the allyportrait-buttons (Share/Mute) -> I didn't know that button was giving control - a little indicator when hovering over it should help.
- When clicking longer on the ally portrait, I want the camera to follow that hero. Right now I have to click him once, then either press V or move the mouse down to his portrait.
- KINDA DONE 1.30: Buff/Debuff time indicator. Make it easily visible how long that buff is gonna last.
http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=65&stc=1&d=1246365110
Still, numbers would be better.
- DONE 1.30: Skill cooldown indicator. Allies can see how long my skill takes to be ready again, why can't I?
http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=64&stc=1&d=1246364851
- Let us rate games at the end. Right now I can just submit a comment but not rate the match.
- Add a visual indicator of which person is currently disconnected/terminated. I'd suggest adding that to the scoreboard, CLEARLY greying out names that have left. Right now we could play against a 5v1 without knowing if we didn't see the d/c messages. Currently there is this skull above his portrait once he's terminated. 1) Hard to see 2) can't see it if he's just disconnected. Suggestion: Make his Name Grey and show (LEAVER) or (DISC) or something
- The portraits of ally have these green/yellow/grey dots. IMO we can't really differ between green and yellow, but actually it's vital for gameplay. Suggestion: See picture: IMO hard to see the difference between yellow and green. This feature is there for a reason: EASILY recognize if a skill is ready. If I have to get closer to see if it's yellow or green then it doesn't make much sense.
http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=68&stc=1&d=1246373659
- Back in Savage 2 we were able to draw stuff on the minimap (just like in Guild Wars) - can we have that for HoN too? It was a useful feature IMO. (Thanks Froh)
http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/4701/gwminimap.jpg
- Currently it is hard to recognize which enemies you're up against. You can look it up on the scoreboard, but it's hard to see. Back in dota there was the -ma command that gave you a list of the enemies you're facing. Could we have something along the lines of that? (Thanks HuMAn_INsANe (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/member.php?u=2593))
- Minimap toggle options: Allow us to cycle between modes that change the colour of icons on the minimap (and possibly on the field): 1) Normal colours, colourful mix 2) Allies blue, enemies red 3) Myself blue, allies green, enemies red - see WC3:TFT as a reference (Thanks P4u1)
- Make spell targeting work on unit portraits (Thanks Jayschwa - http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=2181)
- Make it somewhat more obvious that you've got a point to spend after a levelup.
- It would be great if we could see the time remaining on our own summoned units HP bars. Some sort of third bar that's running down, any indicator so we can quickly see how much time is left. (Thanks Jayblah)
- Targeting Icon: Consider allowing the team captains (i.e. blue and pink) have the ability to mark a target with an overhead floating "skull and crossbones" style icon to denote a primary target in a skirmish. If you are familiar with World of Warcraft, this would be like assigning a raid icon to a mob. Allow the assigning of this icon to be done via a keybind. The icon should always be visible and anchored to the top of the enemy hero-unit when placed. It should vanish when you lose vision of the enemy hero-unit, be it by fog of war, line of sight, or invisibility/stealth/wind-walk. (Thanks Jayblah)
- It would be good if the floating HP bars of enemy heroes were red instead of green. This should allow easier recognition of enemies on the field. (originally suggested by soultaker)
- At the end of the game when the score screen pops up, there is no obvious leave game button. I was expecting to see one maybe at the bottom of the score window, or behind it. Going to menu->disconnect warns me that if I leave I'll get a leaver percentage. After awhile it seemed to time out on its own and leave. (Bogo)
- The place where CC notifications appear is badly placed. It's exactly where enemy heroes items are, not a good place. (Thanks SyKot)
DONE: - The bottom right item of another selected hero is partly obstructed by some sort of pageflip graphic. On items with a certain amount of charges, it makes us unable to see how many charges are left.
http://divzero.at/jsix/asdf/heroitem.jpg
- When selecting another player (see image above) it would be good if the primary attribute was highlighted in green, just like on our own stats (in the above example, STR)
- Ability to view your incoming damage as little floating numbers. These already happen on certain things like blocks and mana burn. Possibly add spell icons to them to help you make sense of what is going on in group battles. (Thanks Garadin)
- Let us mute pings from certain players (just like muting voice). Pingspam is annoying and there should be a method so that it's gone.
DONE: - Please add a keystroke (spacebar, shift+spacebar for prev/next) to cycle map view on events (minimap alert clicks, tower being attacked, etc). (Thanks okichi - and others)
- When going to the options menu ingame, give us an option to make that menu semitransparent - being ganked during an optionchange is tiresome business (Thanks Rawrior)
- An option to transfer ingame notifications to a text-based style instead of pop-up notifications (some sort of LOG in a fixed window - that can be moved around, that would make sure that popups werent in the way of items or other stuff (Thanks Lesson)
- Ally hero icons on the top left should have their corresponding colour next to them, just so you know (Thanks Dub)
- Voice Macros like in Savage 2, just.. without voice but text based? MIA, RE and stuff like that is nice (if youre not playing with a mic that is)
- APM monitoring? Could be sweet. Just like FPS, but, with APM. (Thanks odin607)
- Add a visual indicator that you can't use a skill (make it blink or something instead of not doing anything) - mana: blink blue, silence: blink grey (Thanks NimbleRabit)
- In 1v1 matches, the Enter key should default to "chat to all" without having to hold shift. (Thanks ThatGuyJon)
- When we have the scoreboard half-out and click on Score, then click on score again, make the half-out scoreboard stay half-out and not go away completely. This allows us to check scores for a short while and then return back to the little view of the scores.
- Add the little bubbles that indicate if the skill of an ally is ready or not to the ALTBARS. This makes it easier to see if the ally has the skill ready or not - within miliseconds. (Thanks kis)
- More things to look up in a "Detailed Stats" section, stuff like that: http://throneit.com/?p=stats&u=Darfurious&s=useast.battle.net (Thanks Darfurious)
- There's no easy way to see your latency while in-game. You should be able to see your ping and everyone else's on the F10 screen. (Thanks Casai)
SHOP
- DONE: Use the description area of the shop for actual descriptions, right now we have to look bottomright to see the good stuff. (Thanks Buttink)
DONE: - Currently an item gets green when you have 1 of the 2 needed ingredients. (Thanks Buttink)
- Add a visual indicator that you can't afford an item (red stroke or something) (Bogo)
- Full recipe purchase button. (This is already in the works per S2Seacow) (Thanks Garadin)
- Memory option to open a shop already drilled down to where it was when you last purchased an item and closed it. It would make building things like an orchid much less annoying. (Thanks Garadin)
- The ability to purchase an item available at a shop even if you access that item from another shops list. (Example, if you are standing next to the outpost shop trying to buy a LifeTube, but are clicking on Lifetube from the Secret shops menu, you will be unable to buy it). I didn't think you could buy scrolls of TP from outposts for a while because I always tried to access them via supplies. (Thanks Garadin)
- Add an option to instantly unload your stash (Thanks totZi)
BANLIST
- Make it easier to ban someone. With WC3 Banlist you could do something like /banlast 'comment' which would automatically fill in all kinds of information if you had it set up to do so. This could probably be incorporated into some of the menus as well. (Thanks Garadin)
- Allow banlists to be shared among friends / clans.
SPECTATING
- Allow camerazooming for spectators - being fixed to this zoomlevel may make sense for regular players, but as a spectator I wanna have the overlook of whats happening.
- Add stuff that's interesting for spectators
- Remove stuff that's not interesting for spectators
- There has been a pretty good thread on the forums. Will add URL later.
- Could we get a method to broadcast matches? Like.. 100 spectators with options such as delay, assigning a shoutcaster, and so on

Yes please. Good list.

You should edit your post to use orange instead of yellow and now such a big font, maybe one or two sizes above the normal font. It will make your post much more appealing...
Reading your post now btw since I have found a lot of things in the interface I think need polishing but haven't posted yet. Was planning on posting all of them just before open beta or something since I'm sure they are already doing everything I have noticed.

Done, I'll add some images to demonstrate how I thought things should look like.
Yeah I think the interface could still need some polishing. It's good and all, but there is room for improvements. Feel free to add to the list.

Most of your suggestions are exactly what I was thinking. The most important ones are the tooltips in server info.

Great List, especially the cooldown and buff timers, they will add more precision to the game overall, definetely wanting this.

Disagree with flashing icons btw, they are counter-productive.
Other than that, the sliders in the scrollbars are so TINY, it's a pain to grab them. Can we have some longer bars instead of the dots?
Perfect ideas! I Agree with everythig, i make some sugestions here:http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=987 but seems the staffs of S2 not pronounced about that.
And reading your stuffs i think this can be good to:
INGAME
- When you Level UP, when the skill selection bar must show the NEXT level of your skill, not the actual LVL.
- When one skill is in the MAX level, not show that anymore.
- When you don't have any level of target skill, the icon on the hud must to be nothing, by now, show the icon of the skill in grayscale, very equal to when you have one skill and no mana.
Hm, concerning that levelup stuff: I find it good that the icon shows even when I havent skilled it. I can look the skill up without pressing L.

Also please add more modes to improve frames per second, as that is a very important part.
If possible also allow spell animations to come down further as i can barely deal with low graphics for 2 hr before getting a headache.
Game also gets choppy sometimes plz look into that.

Also if possible allow us to drag and drop our UI's so that we can make things as large as we would like and where it is convincing to us.

The only thing I'd like to add is to your chat section. I'd really love it if there were some more status options like "Busy", "AFK", and "Up for a game". I think these are pretty self-explanatory so I won't go into explaining them unless someone asks.

Added. Was thinking of that too.

When players have selected their team it would be nice to be able to right click their names under the team chocies to check stats etc instead of having to find the names in the chat box and click that way. Seems to be a bit unintuitive having to do this the current way.
Would also be nice if it was easier to tell in game whether your character is Str/Agi/Ini for new players.

Most of all, I think it would be nice to enlarge the command's screen ingame a little bit, so you can make bigger Icons and put more info on the bar. And, please, make the selected unit to be the one focused in the menu. It's HORRIBLE to look at the bottom of your screen just to see enemy itens and so. It doesn't bother too much re-selecting your hero, shouldn't be a problem to anyone.
But, anyway, it's GOOD as it is, just could be better.

I'd like dual monitor support, if only to put the whole clan and community panel on it. that way I can could keep up with IM's and chats while playing without having to flip open the screen covering the game.

I have a suggestion for the Create Game Menu.
When you click on "Create game" in the menu it drops down a sub window to select game options. this sub window also has "create game" button.
Having two buttons with the same name so close to each other was a little confusing. then you have the first button glowing, like it wants me to click on it. but that makes the sub menu close!
Maybe make the first "Create game" button grayed out once you click on it, or make the "create game" button in the sub menu glow instead. You could also just disable the first Create Game button while in the game creation menu.
I'm pretty sure they had all of these things planned or had atleast noticed them already otherwise I would have posted about them long ago.

Great ideas Ride.
I know you mentioned it but it's really annoying when you cant easily see who is talking. Make edges of the portrait glow or similar instead of just a tiny bubble.
One thing that also annoys me about the UI is the effect that's been added to the skill / ability buttons. You have this awesome art and then you put this horribly generic glossy effect all over it. For some skills it even makes it a bit hard to see the cooldown remaining.
Also, when it comes to combining items - could we please make it so that if i have items 1 2 3 4 5 6 in my inventory and item 7 in my stash, I can then put item 7 in my inventory to combine it to make an item with item 1 2 3 for example without it moving items to the stash (I hope that made sense).
Maybe even make it so that if you are close to the stash and you shift-click an item it will combine the items as if you had them all in your inventory. I bet someone will pop up and say this is all possible already but yeah.
One new feature that I'd like to see though are different pings. Let's say you have your standard ping that's just like it is now. Then you could have a 3 more that ping and put a small icon on the minimap that symbolize attack, defend & help (Sword, shield and a red cross for example). Not all of us have mics or are good enough at english to use the voip but personally i'd still like to be able to issue quick "commands" without having to pause and type them out.

Yeah, on what Wihl said, I have noticed that if you have your inventory full but have all the parts for an item but the recipe and drop the recipe from your stash on an item in you inventory (that isn't one of the parts to the item in question) it will still build the item, but it also swaps the other item you dropped the recipe on into the stash. This is just a minor bug that I'm sure can be ironed out quickly, but it should definitely be done.

Everything in the in-game UI needs to be scalable, movable, and hidable.
Add hotkeys for things such as self cast. Ie.. Abilities 1-4 bound to keys 1-4 respectively. On key modifier (lets say shift) shift+1 would cast ability one on self.
I used red because this type of **** would make my life considerably easier in this game. The minimap is in a **** spot imo along with player portraits and a handful of other things.

I would suggest the Quick Play and Main Menu buttons be swapped around. This is because when the find a game panel is down, it covers the main menu button. Logically if you have the find a game panel down you probably no longer wish to access the quick play button.

Please allow us to move and scale the minimap. It's really difficult to notice at it's small scale tucked away in the corner. If it's movable, allow us to adjust the texture poacity too, please.
Please allow us to move and scale the buff/debuff icons.
Please allow summoned, timed units to have a "time remaining" bar display when HP Bars are toggled. For example, when you have summoned War Beast's hounds, directly under their floating HP bar, a yellow depleting bar representing the "time remaining" would be attached.
Please implement a "game start countdown" feature in the game lobby such that when Start is pressed by the host, a timer is displayed. If any player leaves during this time, the starting of the game is canceled until the host is ready once more to press Start.
Consider implementing a small pop-up above the sys-tray when you receive a message or game-invite from a friend. The pop-up should only appear when the HoN client is minimized, and should contain the text message of the whisper.
The most important pop-up stats on hero names. Win/Lose, Dissconects, K/D.
Make the window that opens on "view stats" to close on Esc.
Why items dont go in hero inventory when you click on them in stash. Drag N Drop here not so usefull as simple click.

It has been touched on already in this thread, but movable interface panels would be amazing. The target information is so tiny and way at the bottom right of the screen. It makes it hard to get any kind of quick information about the target. I would love for my own health bar/info and my target's health bar/info/item list to be movable and scalable.
As it currently stands I feel it is extremely clunky to target someone and try to figure out what items they have, especially at higher resolutions. This is of course exacerbated by the fact that I don't know the icons yet and thus need to actually mouse over the icons to see what the item is, which I do not need to do in dota.
Worst case scenario, if movable interface panels is something that cannot be implemented, could an overall interface scaling option be considered? Some of the stuff is small enough that I'm considering dropping my resolution back down just so I can see it more easily. Sorry if this already exists and I just overlooked it.

This image comes from Guild Wars. On the mini map we can draw anything we want, like arrows (on this picture). We can also ping locations like in HoN and Dota.
It can be very useful to allow team strategy.
It would be very nice to see this in HoN.
Fun Tavern/Fun Heroes/Heroes Editor
Ok, then, in non officials games, it could be interesting to have some "fun taverns" like in dota official or unofficials versions. As well as an hero editor. (You created a map editor, so why not)
Don't focus on it, it's just a bonus, but it can always be interesting for mappers/modders.
(so maps could be EoTa or SMota representatives with same heroes etc... We could also see Pudge wars)
Maybe a suggestion part for the forum can be a great idea too. =/

Hero Icons
The hero icons on the scoreboard are crappy quality. I can't make out the icons to even try to memorize each heroes icon. I often forget who I am playing against, from the time the heroes are selected to the beginning of the game. Having to find this information out after buying items, can be troublesome. Actually when buying items anytime, it's important to know your enemies, to counter them. Having to look around in other lanes can be annoying in the heat of trying to last hit or harass, especially if some are missing in action, then you might have to wait a minute or so. In DotA there was a -ma command and you could check what player was what hero in the Allies tab. If not change the scoreboard, add something that varies to DotA.
Checking Stats
Checking stats is a hassle in a game lobby. You have to right click a players name and hit view stats. To go onto the next person you need to close the community tab and right click the next player. Or type the persons name in, but that is difficult because the stats tab blocks half of the players in the game. I don't think the stats will be removed from the community tab, so instead, lets make it easier to view a whole games worth of stats quick and easily. Simply by making it possible to use the arrow keys to scroll to the next person in the game (Up and Down arrow keys) up or down the list. This also could be used in the chat lobby, if someone is looking for a player with the same skill level.
In Game
- Make the key binding for open shop also close it
For me, it already does that :x

game lobby:
make the 'kick' function work for players idling not on a team
make the sound for the mouseover of the kick button in the chat area (lower playerlist of people in the lobby) play once on mouseover, and not once for every pixel you mouseover on the kick icon.
make it so the host can't kick himself.
server lobby:
more info viewable about the games!
names of players in game
distribution of players on teams (i.e. 5 legion, 0 hellbourne)
what the advanced options are, not just that advanced options are selected.
this may be related to the open bug about servers not being sortable by ping, but - when i create a game and don't manually specify the server, the 'automatic' option almost never chooses one of the servers that i ping the best to.
games that are full often clutter my list of games - i assume that they're full, but still in lobby? it would be nice to have an option to filter out full games.
the filters should be opposite of what they are now - selecting the easy mode filter should filter OUT easy mode games, and not reduce the list to only easy mode games. It's a pretty minor issue now, because of the small number of games - but i imagine after release it will be a major headache.

1. UI Scale. My monitor's native resolution is 1920x1080. My vision is awful. This means TINY TINY text on parts of the interface. Please let me scale the interface up and down.
2. I think there should be an option to allow the 'stats box' that is normally shown in the lower right hand corner when you mouse over items and skills to float above the cursor. I used a UI mod in WoW for this and I miss it a lot here.

Please add a proper LEVEL UP indicator.
Every game, and I do mean EVERY game, I sometimes notice that I have 3 - 5 skill points unused.
Why? Because I didn't notice I leveled up. The interface is so small and the sound que isn't distinguishable enough for me to notice. I haven't noticed if there is an effect on the hero when leveling up but if there is then obviously it wasn't very noticeable.
Just add a Diablo-esque ' + ' -sign on top of hero icon when there are unused skill points.
Thanks.
EDIT: It's great that there is a hotkey to toggle on/off the healthbar view but please add a checkbox to the options for this too. There is no reason not to have it.

Gameplay/Communication improvement
Targeting Icon: Consider allowing the team captains (i.e. blue and pink) have the ability to mark a target with an overhead floating "skull and crossbones" style icon to denote a primary target in a skirmish.

1) The message on the exit dialog (Are you sure you want to leave?) is in the upper left corner in its own bar. This should be centered right above the buttons. That is how dialogs are usually done.
2) I saw a brief message in the bottom right that said press F6 for friends pane. That's fine, but there should be a button to click for the pane. If I didn't see that message, I would have had no idea how to bring it up. I tried clicking all over the place to add a friend to my list before the message popped.
3) At the end of the game when the score screen pops up, there is no obvious leave game button. I was expecting to see one maybe at the bottom of the score window, or behind it. Going to menu->disconnect warns me that if I leave I'll get a leaver percentage. After awhile it seemed to time out on its own and leave.
4) It's not obvious that you have to invite people to private games. I come from war3 B.net where a private game simply means the game isn't listed. I finally learned about inviting by hovering over the small question mark on the bottom right of the game screen. It was just a good guess to try /invite. A new person might have no idea. There should also be an interface in the game screen somewhere for doing invites. At least, I didn't see any buttons for it.
5) The camera really needs to be able to zoom out more.
6) When you hover over items in the store, an information box pops up on the far right of the screen. For most items, there is a large empty box to the left with just the name of the item. This space should also include the stats, with the box on the right having the full detailed information as it does now.
7) This one I don't feel too strongly about and actually I don't think matters after I typed it out. It just takes getting used to.
The store interface is a huge improvement over what is able to be done in DoTA. I really enjoy that you can look up recipes and buy subitems right from there. The one issue I have is how it grays out items that aren't available from the location you are at.
Take for example the Butterfly (I forgot the new name). The recipe requires a quarterstaff and an eaglehorn. The recipe is illuminated at the fountain shop, because that's where you get it. If you go to the secret shop, it grays out because you can't get the recipe there, but you can still get the eaglehorn. While this makes perfect sense, it seems to imply that you can't get that item or any subitem at the location there, when you can still get one.
I feel there should be a different way to notate recipes that have subitems available at a shop. I don't have any good suggestions at this time however. Perhaps fade them out a bit, but not gray.
8) In the vein of the last one, it could also be nice to have a notification for items that you don't have enough gold for currently. Say, some kind of outline on your cursor as you hover over it.
9) The " key seems to turn on HP bars. Is that in the keybindings? I looked for awhile last night but did not see it.
10) Pressing F6 opens the community panel, pressing it again closes it. Pressing F7 opens a data transfer window, pressing F7 again does not close it. You have to press Esc. This is inconsistent. Esc should also be able to close any menu or panel. For example, pressing Esc while in the Options panel on the main screen should send it back to the right.
11) It would be nice if "Create Game" defaulted to your last used settings, including game name, or have if there was an option/separate button for this.
All of the above were suggestions posted by Bogo; all credit goes to him. I really wish people would stop making new threads and use this one, since it's clearly gotten S2's attention.

I'd like to suggest further enhancement to the Banlist feature in the game.
The addition of variables for custom banlist text. For example:
%lastleaver - automatically grabs last leaver's name
%info - automatically prints the amount of players in the game at point of ban
%date - automatically prints the day, month, and year the ban was created.
The ability to set a default ban message using aforementioned variables.
A keybind that allows you to ban the last leaver with a keypress using the default ban message.
A truncated version of the banlist command. Consider "/bl"
Please consider adding a distinct sound effect to be played when a banlisted player joins the game.
I added Bogos suggestions to the list, plus the one with red hp bars. Keep those ideas coming!

Call me a a wow interface artist fanatic addict..
I like the interface in general very much.. however
The target frame... Why is it positioned in the far lower right corner, and scaled smaller than your self-frame for some reason? ..
It's a very useful frame, but it's not very useful when you have to check the far lower right corner just to see the targets hit points or mana points while in a fight.
I beg you to give us the option to slide the frame sideways on the lower panel..
Also, there are 2 gaps; minimap | gap | self-frame | gap | target
Give us something to use the gaps for, like written above, slide the target frame to the left maybe for easier apearance..
Maybe let us have some interface customization, limited however, but some.
I don't if i'm the only one who feels the current interface is a bit a awkward? :O

I checked through the initial post and didn't see this - a key that opens the scoreboard and then hides it again upon release would be great for rapidly checking the current status of everyone and then getting the GUI space back. I'd default it to tab.
If you get a notification that you have an IM, and you click that one, it should go to the person that sent you that IM, and not just the first person on the list.
There's no reason for the CC panel to open when you're reading IMs.
ESC really needs to exit all menus. If I'm reading an IM, I should be able to press ESC to get back. If the CC is open, I should be able to press ESC.
There needs to be a better way to display secondary skills. I was playing Syllabear, and his other abilities were little tiny boxes under his ult. I didn't even notice them until I was lvl 16.

I've noticed that as well, and that would be great.
Could use a "Queue to join server" option too, to try to get into one of the full lobbies in case they kick people. It would just end when the lobby launched into a game (Or when it let you in due to someone getting kicked). Save on spamming refresh on a game that looks interesting that might open up again.

I'd like a nationality flag in player stats or at least some sort of 'spoken language' verification. I've experienced a few situations now where teammates just couldn't communicate.
Ping information in the lobby's 'user info' option would be great too.
Expanding on ping, nationality, and/or spoken language, I'd like to see some regional restrictions in create game options. Say checkboxes for North America, Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, etc. Maybe even a way for users to 'check off' their spoken languages in their profile and limit games by this method.

For selftargeted AoE spells (keeper of the forest ultimate, Glacius ultimate, slardars stun (cant remember his name in this yet), etc) show the AoE around your hero when hovering mouse over the skill. Makes it easier to realise/know the range of the spell for when you use it.

I'd really like a view game button for friendslist. Like the ones in steam. So i see how long friends have been playing how they are doing etc. It's not a neceserity but i think it would be really nice.

Great thread. I was actually thinking about putting together a consolidated interface improvements thread and while I was doing a bit of research, found this one and saw that it is still being updated.
Game List
----------
The ability to filter *out* certain games based on type. I can filter on *only* EM games, but I can't show only games that are not EM.
Shopping
---------
Full recipe purchase button. (This is already in the works per S2Seacow)
Memory option to open a shop already drilled down to where it was when you last purchased an item and closed it. It would make building things like an orchid much less annoying.
The ability to purchase an item available at a shop even if you access that item from another shops list. (Example, if you are standing next to the outpost shop trying to buy a LifeTube, but are clicking on Lifetube from the Secret shops menu, you will be unable to buy it). I didn't think you could buy scrolls of TP from outposts for a while because I always tried to access them via supplies.
Banlist
--------
Making it easier to ban someone. With WC3 Banlist you could do something like /banlast 'comment' which would automatically fill in all kinds of information if you had it set up to do so. This could probably be incorporated into some of the menus as well.
Allow banlists to be shared among friends / clans.
Chat
------
The ability to view IM's as whispers in game rather than having to hit F6 to view them.
The ability to move or suppress the IM notification (and other buddy notification) windows. These currently pop up right over your target heros information and can be extremely annoying when they keep popping up over what you're trying to look at.
Damage Numbers
---------------
Ability to view your incoming damage as little floating numbers. These already happen on certain things like blocks and mana burn. Possibly add spell icons to them to help you make sense of what is going on in group battles.
Friends List
------------
Use different colors for friends in game lobbies vs. games that are in progress so you know whether or not to attempt to join a game your friend is in.
Possibly allow a mouseover of a friend that is in a game show the name of the game he is in (to find out if multiple friends are in the same game etc.)
Show the time that a friend has been in their current game.
Minimap
--------
Possibly add an additional type of ping to differentiate between informational pings and action pings. (Sometimes you might want to just note the location of someone on the map without wanting to call for a gank etc. on them.) Not sure about this one.
The following section might not belong in this thread, but that's for you to decide.
Stats
-------
Overall Skill Rating. This would likely be a pretty complex calculation, and of course it's never going to be completely correct, but they should at least help make sense of some of the stats that people can (and many that they can't) see. Similar to Arena Rating in WoW. While this system would have a million loopholes and shouldn't be used for any truly competetive measurement of a player, it should help give people a *general* idea of your skill level and let games be matched up more easily. This system might take into account things like creep kills/denies, actions per minute and many other factors, but most importantly, it would take into account your opponents skill levels so that the 3.0 K/D ratio pubstomper doesn't look immensely better than the 0.8 KD ratio player who plays primarily against top level opponents. It would also ideally encourage players to play against people as good or better than they are rather than farming noobs for stats.
Allow games to filter based on this overall number. (The idea is to basically come up with something a little more accurate than the current 'noob' and 'pro' tiers. This game has HUGE skill progressions that need dozens if not hundreds of tiers, not 2-3. In a perfect world, this rating + a players level will give a much better idea of skill level than stats like "K/D" ratio.

Do you need that shop frame at all with tooltips available?

One more suggestion:
Use the unused space of the ingame UI and make 2 or 3 portraits for units you control, instead of having to select them you can simply click on their potrait (maybe even a button to select all of your "minions" and/or all of your "minions" and yourself as well)
1. Make the interface scaleable. I'm dying on my 1280x800 resolution, I don't even want to imagine how it looks like on more...
2. Make a "mute ally chat" option for available for a game host (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=4657)

Back in Savage 2 we were able to draw stuff on the minimap (just like in Guild Wars) - can we have that for HoN too? It was a useful feature IMO.
I don't like th idea of being able to draw on the minimap. If you meant that your team mates could see it, it would get abused too much. If you meant that only you could see it, I don't see the point. Alt+Clicking the map to "ping" around is sufficient.
Also, I don't like the language filter. Sometimes it is off and sometimes it's on (during games I think). I'd prefer it would stay off, but thats just me so I think an option to toggle it would be nice to suit each player's preference. It's **** *** ******** **** annoying.
Haven't read through all the ideas, but I'm liking most of what I see in this thread. So far it's the only one I've seen in which posters have maintained some dignity and/or intelligence.

- Could we get a method to broadcast matches? Like.. 100 spectators with options such as delay, assigning a shoutcaster, and so on
Without a doubt, Guild Wars had the best system for observing. An implementation of that would be good.
What happened was that any match in the top ranks 100 of the ladder would be broadcast on a 15 minute delay automatically to anyone who wanted to watch.
Add in the ability to save replays and option of both teams to broadcast their match to the public server (regardless of ranking) and you have an amazing system.

i find the shop interface a bit large and covers most of my screen. Along with that i have to find the small red x otherwise i have to reach across and hit my esc key. Final gripe is that i cant bind the shop to my numbers, i usually have my hero on 1, and the shops on 2-3, seeing that spells are on qwer, what are my numbers for? I like to be able to push 2 while managing my hero quick and simple like it was in DoTa to buy items while im dodging my character around.

In the Chat Box UI, I find it pretty weird that the color gradient is brightest where the most recent text was rendered. It's backwards, since this means that what you are most interested in reading has the lowest contrast. I would suggest either removing that gradient or changing it so that it's on top or something. Anything but where it is now would be better.

Yeah i remember when that came out and everyone copied our build :(
Before that only the top 50 or so could do that coz they were the only ones to see it and evin then it was hard to see skill to skill. In the end it was a good thing though becouse it just forced you to play better not play a better build.

One thing I've noticed is the current clunkiness of looking at player stats in a game lobby. Currently, the easiest way I've found to do this involves you right clicking the player name and clicking View Stats. This then opens the community panel to display the stats.
It'd be make much more sense to put some of the more common stats (W/L K/D/A) on a tooltip when you mouse over the player name in the lobby, so that you don't have to open the community manager at all. It is especially frustrating when you need to look up the stats of several players quickly, as you essentially have to open and close the community manager for each query, or type in their name manually. Both of these issues would be eliminated with the use of a tooltip.

Can someone please sticky this so people don't need to specifically go searching for it whenever there's something they'd like to suggest?
EDIT:
With that said, heres one for you:
The text on the healthbar and the manabar suffer from some contrast problems because of the "shine" in the middle of the healthbar/manabar graphic makes the white text blend in partly. Here is what would help:
BEFORE:

AFTER:
http://i27.tinypic.com/mkd4xt.jpg
I wasn't really all that exact when taking out the "shine" with MS Paint so I ended up making the text a bit blurry too, but you get the general idea I hope.
Some space before and after the " / " would be cool too so it isn't all so cramped up.

I have to say, my biggest annoyance is not having a "Leave Game" button when the game is over. I am always confused by that. It doesn't help that you can't open the menu while the scoreboard is up, only makes it harder to figure out how to quit.
How about banlist telling you a player is banned when the player joins the game (starts loading), not when he actually connects in (when he's able to pick a slot)?

Excellent thread Ride! Please add this to the front page. I have a few suggestions:
1. Please add a permanent, 8 prong star shape box around enemy heroes in game. This will really help color blind players identify enemies. Using star shape will still allow you to distinguish selected enemy targets when a circle is added.
2. Please move the target info pane at the bottom center of the screen just above the normal UI pane right now. (or make UI widgets movable as suggested). Also make this pane look different when an enemy is displayed (again more than just by color).
3. When the Shop UI is opened. Clicking Alt-E to use an item slot will instead buy an item in Shop slot E. Please make it respect modifier keys even when shops are open. Sucks when you have to activate an ability or item and you end up buying items. (Not sure if it makes a difference but I'm using a macro program for my input device).
4. This may just be a problem I'm having. When using map edge scroll while you're trying to move towards the Southwest direction, often time I would mistakenly click a spot on the mini-map instead of a spot on the ground. This usually ends up causing my hero to turn around and head the opposite direction. Since the standard map has mostly SW-NE routes, the minimap is in an unfortunate spot for people who uses map edge scroll + move. Please consider adding an option where you have to hold Ctrl + click on minimap to issue a move command.
5. Please add a keystroke (spacebar, shift+spacebar for prev/next) to cycle map view on events (minimap alert clicks, tower being attacked, etc).
Thank you.

Make it so when I pause it and try to go to options, so it doesn't fade out the background(game screen) screen to black.

I would suggest being able to have your friend window pop-ups appear as in game text similar to battle.net or an option to move the alerts slightly above the stash area. I find that i constantly get pop-ups and this is especially annoying if i'm trying to check an enemy heroes inventory as he moves into the fog or i'm trying to grab items from my stash, it'll pull up the Control panel etc.

In game it displays notifications that someone just signed in, or someone joined a game, etc. And that notification is in the bottom right, and it covers up the panel in the bottom right. I don't know if this has been suggested, but I searched for clock and I didn't find anything.
Well, for my syggestion then. I would love a clock ingame to show what your time is in your timezone. There has been some nights when you look out your window and you see it starts to get light outside and you realize when you tab out that the clock has passed your "bedtime" with several hours. I'd love to see an option to turn on a clock so you know what time it is ingame and also when you are joining a game or are out in the chatrooms.

There also needs to be a way to limit who enters games based on their k/d ratio.

If possible it would be a good idea to restore the old w3 commands system (-ma, -afk...)
Also a Transfer items button between shop and hero could help a lot (at least make the item be automatically transfered on double click if there is an empty slot).
In most screens, Chat looses focus when clicking elswere.
Players should be able to choose whether or not they want their stats (k/d mainly) to be seens by others. Stats system may lead to noob descrimination but also (it's less frequent but already exists on dota) pro descrimination.

I think at the very least that the UI should be scalable, the thing that bugs me the most right now is that the game implemented DOTAs gigantic UI. Something that happend to me quite often, even after years of playing DOTA was that I would accidently click on the UI at the bottom and thus royally screwing things up. This happens in HoN as well:
-> Remove the unecessary parts of the UI, WHY are there parts of the UI that have no practical function and just fill up the screen (ie the black parts between the map and healthbars, and between the healthbars and inventory), they serve no purpose and not only block the view but makes it easy to click on them by mistake.
-> Have an option of scaling the UI! Same reason as above, and would be useful in any case.
Would like to see the private message box be able to stay on the screen even after I exit out of the Clan and community panel.
CHAT
- Auto Rejoin channels when you log in again (not the match or HoN ones, just the custom ones)
- Ability to register channels / keep and give operator status that stays even after relogs
INGAME UI
- xaml custom interface? pretty please?

nice list of suggestions, i also think they should have an option to disable clicking on the dang minimap to move your character, i've died a few times due to that
hi, got a couple suggestions:
1st: in SD mode, make it possible to see your teammate's 3 hero choices by hovering over their names. if i move the cursor over yellow's circle, i'd like to be able to see which heroes he has the option of choosing. this is would allow for an easier and more convenient method of discussing with your team which heroes you should pick.
2nd: currently just about every standard program prompt has their confirm button as the first (left) button and the cancel button as the second (the right). this game, however, has the cancels/denies/disconnects on the left and the accept button on the right. not that i can't read but the little things add up. since most programs tend to use that standard [1. accept/2. deny] format, it's easy to get mixed up and autopilot and click the wrong button. i mean of course it's not that i can't read but it's a convenience thing; not having to stop and think about it everytime would be really nice.
nice list of suggestions, i also think they should have an option to disable clicking on the dang minimap to move your character, i've died a few times due to that
this has long, long, long, long been an annoying as hell issue i've had with the game. if you're running back towards sentinel base (being chased frantically) it's really quite easy to accidently click on the minimap. and generally when you click it it'll turn you right back around into the enemy. i would love if this could be changed.

I agree and I have something to add onto this, but I don't feel it's in the interface category. When you're traveling from one lane to another, it's easy for someone to just right click that lane, and have your hero automatically go to that lane without following the heroes movements and constantly having to right click the whole way there. I'll admit clicking the way there is the safest route, but at times it's not necessary. Sometimes instead of clicking the ground, I end up right clicking a creep. If the creep dies my hero stops to pick daisies on the ground. In War3 if the creep died I believe the hero just went to the spot where the creep died. Would be nice to have this in HoN.

I have one suggestion to add, concerning going AFK for a second.. something may always come up and to play for that time wouldn't be the best.
Add an option in the ui to give away control of your hero.
So what if you could give away control of your hero to a team mate you trust. Just for those few minutes you are away. that way you can get back to your playing without getting penalties and your team will get back to full power after a short time. or maybe not even notice it too much.
Is it possible to add a preview of player names, average rating, etc. when highlighting a game?

Would love to see bigger buttons, more distinct icons. In particular:
-The X for closing windows is microscopic
-The stats icons in bottom left not very intuitive, while your own characters avatar is HUGE....i already know what hero i am using, thanks

Make the Ready button a lot more noticeable by either:
1. Making the button bigger

3. Have some sort of flashing indicator to to remind people that they haven't hit ready yet

Waiting the game to start and have all the 10 players sometimes is boring.
It would be interesting if in the middle part of the screen inside the room ( in the middle of the SLots to pick ) have a minigame, a quiz or something to players wait before the room is full.
There is a big space right in the middle of that area and would be grate to have something in there to interact with

It would be nice if we could have the stats of each player appearing when we hover the mouse over them (in the lobby before the game starts) or have a window that pops up when we click on them; or at least let us be able to acces the right click menu by right clicking on their position in the teams (the place where you put yourself in a team) instead of their names in the chat screen.
A "MISS" and "RE" button than pressed writes a message somewhere saying "Miss from lane XYZ" and "Enemy is back to lane XYZ" based on the lane the character is when it presses it.
we should have all the shops in one screen instead of having multiple shops. i will make a mock-up in photoshop later.

Figured I'd try to contribute to the cause.
Client:
- Historical average APM
- Esc closes out the F6 overlay menu when all other windows are closed
- Changelog that is viewable in game (ideally so you can read it while you download the new version)
Game:
- APM monitoring
- Make it very obvious when someone leaves [good old leaver detected?]
- Scoreboard slide out is to small; Icons are hard to distinguish
- Increase the minimap size
- Increase the creep model size
- Increase the hero model size (more than creeps; increasing the current hero:creep ratio)
- Slow down the turn speed a tad (it feels faster)
- Damage is registered way too early (this makes last hitting too easy - study this a bit)
- Clean up the map by removing some aesthetic details. (gameplay should always takes precedence over eye candy)
- Remap default chat button from z to a less common key.
- Remap Soulstealer's first ability to zxc
- Copy DotA's orb properties (no stacking, but slot predence and "if something procs" both factor in)
Thoughts:
- Your game is more responsive than Warcraft 3. If you don't figure this into your game it will actually play faster, creating imbalances.
- Stick true to DotA for now. More direct ports with no reworking. Make this your own game after it grows its legs and starts to replace DotA. You want your game to be as good as dota and have a better client, not a slightly inferior game with a better client.
- Currently I rate this game a 7/10 (10/10 being equal to DotA). The client is enough to make me want to keep playing for now, but that wouldn't always be true. In the current state I would probably get fed up and move back to DotA within 2 or 3 months.
- Watch out for a Starcraft2 DotA release, it has the potential of hindering this games popularity.
- Hire Icefrog! He'll fix all your issues... and remove the chance of him porting to Starcraft2. (kidding =P)

I'd like to add that it could be more obvious when you can't use a skill and when you can, the entire system could use some work. For example, if you don't have enough mana then maybe the button could glow blue or something to indicate it can't be used specifically because of mana. If you're out of range then another way of letting you know. And when the cooldown comes off an indication, or the option of turning it on, like a small flash or glow would be great.

There is a lot of good stuff going on here!
Press Escape - Then check the "full" beside the team mate you wish to give control over your character and assets. This is already in place :)
When you're back, just uncheck the same box.

Game List
-Would like to have a EU / US / JAP flag next to the games (between the No Leavers icon and game name) and the possibility to filter based on server location.
Hero Selection
-The spinning arrow is a great addition but I feel it's looking a bit "cheap" at the moment. Would prefer it to be shown in a different way, possibly a 2D arrow from the sides or some sort of spinning effect around the player "bubble".
End of game statistics
-Should be displayed outside of the game. Often I'm looking through the stats for different players and I end up getting thrown out of the game because the timer runs out.
-I'd like to get a level indication next to the skillup-list. In a long game with everyone around level 20 its hard to see if someone got skill X on level 15, level 14 or 16 etc
-Would like more detailed statistics with graphs if possible, like a curve showing my XP /min throughout the game.

You have the -apm comand in DOTA aswell..
Oh, nevermind then! If DotA has it, it must be a good idea!
You don't need to click stuff all the time to raise your APM when you're waiting to heal in the fountain, or walking towards a map ping or a lane, or farming/denying in safety, or...
I fail to see the point. In an extremely complex RTS game APMs have a point: the more you can do, the better you will be. There's always something you can do to make that soldier dodge a little better, or make that guy build that thing faster, or anything.
But here, you really don't need to do all that stuff. It's an action game. Sure, the controls are like an RTS, but APM matter as much as they do in Counter-Strike.
The last thing we need is yet another pointless stat that people may statwhore, like KD...
Make a clear visible large button in the clan panel for "Leave clan". Not the first thing to come in mind to search your name from the long clan list, right-click it, and then select from the options "leave clan".

Main Menu/Chat:
The game is very shiny with a bunch of hard to understand effects. In the pick hero screen we have descriptions of each hero. What I suggest is a menu you can access outside the match that gives more detailed info than descriptions so new people can learn the heroes in theory outside of the time constraints of a match.
So, let's say you click on a hero out of the menu. You're greeted by the description for the hero and his base stats and a .gif of his attack animation. To the side is a drop down menu of his 4 skills with a .gif animation of each in action, an image (if it applies) to what the effect looks like on your status bar when it's affecting you (be it buff or debuff), and the tiers of the skill and what it does/costs each tier.
In-Game HUD:
Building off of the previous suggestion, we have the status bar in the in-game HUD. It's a bit hard to tell exactly what's affecting you. so I suggest an optional HUD display like the ' button's allowing you to see all current hitpoints of units on screen that will have 3 settings. Show effects on your hero, all heroes, and off. To simplify things for people it'll be like +atk +ac, etc. To give people a gist of what's affecting them or their allies without needing to glance down at the tiny status bar.
It'd look something like this:
____
-atk .| O |
-ac . |\|/|
held .|/ \ |
stun. ----

I know this won't change, but it would be really nice to have the minimap closer to the middle of the screen, on the top or bottom, so one doesn't have to keep glancing back and forth at it and taking one's eyes off the playing field. It seems like the only reason to have it at the bottom left is as a relic from WC3 (in which you aren't usually looking at it quite as often.)

This might just count as an interface improvement (and I don't know if it's already planned). Can we have the actions on couriers that were introduced recently in DOTA? Namely the 'return to base' and the 'give me my items' actions. They're so, so useful.
Thanks!
btw, agree with the positioning of the mini map. I'm way more used to having it in the top right. I don't suppose there's any chance we'll be able to customise our UI's like you can in Guild Wars/Warhammer/other mmos? That would be unreal. At least for the minimap.

Lobby:
-Allow rightclicking on the filter options to select the previous option. Example: I right click on something "not selected" and it becomes "don't want" or I right click on something set to "want" and it becomes "not selected", currently two leftclick would be required to make it "want", and then "don't want". Saves one click and is more intuitive.
-In the tooltip when mouseovering over an "advanced" icon in the game browser, show which modes are activated.
-Allow filtering for ping, with a min and max value.
-Save filter options over sessions. Save settings you use for creating a new game over sessions/single games, including modes and name.
-Improve the select server dropdown menu when creating a game by automatically filling it with 10 servers that have the lowest ping or were marked as favourites in the server browser, so you don't have to let all the servers load before you can select one with low ping.
-The area with the "view advanced" is completely unused besides this one button. Either remove the button and show the options per default, or show something cool/useful there instead. Something cool/useful could include: a short list of recommended games that match your filters and lack a player to start, have people you recently played with inside, etc; an ingame model doing some animations and looking cool; a random PROTIP; the most recent active thread in the forums or other community related things; a notepad; a calendar for clan events; a clock. The advanced options would then require to be activated by a button in the bottom-left below shuffle team, and slide in over the new feature. Save the state of the slide over sessions while you are at it.

Related to the minimap, when I right click an item inside my courier and want to drop it behind the tower or somewhere else, when I hover the mouse in the minimap the item picture should disappear so I could accurately drop the item (or drop all, when the shortcut is added), the way it's now makes it extremely hard to drop items via minimap.

http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=5715
i was wondering if it would be possible to have an option to scale the UI in game so icons and text etc become bigger or smaller depending on the scale?
similar to in WoW and in other games like ARMA2.
i ask because i play on a plasma and at high resolutions like 1920x1080 it is very dificult to see any of the icons or text in game and on the menus etc.
most games this isn't an issue as i can increase the scale of the menus or in game to help but for this game i find it very difficult to play properly when i can't read everything.
adding this option would be great if its possible
the postscreen game summary after a game is much more nicer than in dota. maybe i have bad eyes but i didnt find a overview wich heroes i killed and who killed me like in the dota postscreen. tell me where it is or think about adding it to the postscreen :)

a /f command like in warcraft would rock - a bar to type in a name and add friend like in warcraft
a clan menu in the friends list
also in game - too many particles in explosions + textures are too well done (hard to see whats going on) + color choices in the shops / item icons makes it hard to see whats up with the shops and whats going on in the game - needs to be toned down a small bit (somewhere between what you have and warcraft 3 would be perfect - war3 didnt have enough you guys have too much :P )

My idea:
Upon death, the buffs/debuffs could remain on character untill respawn. That way, it's possible to check what actually killed you.
This would help the new players alot, to understand for example why they were so slow at the time of their death, or what had happened them. For example, they had escaped, but still died on some curse/poison.
(This is idea came from Demigod, where this is implemented. It's a good feature there.)

I really would love to see the opportunity for a tie in list. This could be very easily outsourced - have your servers allow login and send data wrapped in xml. This would enable players to create applications to track online friends, clanmates, etc. I'd love to be able to write an iPhone app that tracks online members and allows me to message them, or a facebook app to allow us to make a clan group that shows who is playing who when. It'd also be really cool to make full clan communities that display stats pulled straight from the server.

Chicken has no Loot to hero button?
I tried to see if it was in the list but couldn't
I think that under a player especially back in DOTA there was an aura or colour depending on what team they were on, I can't see that in this game and have noticed that in a 5v5 game when all heroes converge on a lane it is hard to tell which person is on what team, a nice obvious colour ring around the heroes on the other team would be very beneficial.

Please make chat channels you have open when you quit to be up when you login. Now only channel that keeps up is clan channel and that is good reason to have clan right now :). Extremely annoying to always join to some channel to chat with friends.
Would be nice if one was able to configure where the notification windows pop up, as of now they grow up from the bottom-right of the screen, often on top of your items panel making it somewhat hard to see when items are off cooldown. The default position should be so that they start growing above the menu, wouldn't hurt to be able to set transparency either.
It should be possible to change the gamename after creating a game ( game looby ) like it was possible in wc3 with lc and ghost.
Sorry for not updating the OP. I've just moved to Munich and my internet is still not here, surfing from my neighbours WLAN (that idiot has no password lolz). I'll update it next week!

How about an option on the friends list to see how long they've been in game? You could even elaborate on it and show the scores, if that's even possible. It'd be helpful to gauge how much longer you would have to wait until your friends are done. Should you play a game, or just wait it out? Not sure if it's even possible, just a suggestion. Great game guys!

Regarding the new Random Draft arrows.
They look kinda shitty. They look out of place (doesn't fit well with the interface) and they look like something you make through some basic 3D tutorial.
Imho, just keep it simple, and make it fit with the interface so it looks allright.
Also, another thing. The lock that pops up on your portrait when you've clicked 'ready', doesn't really look like a lock. It took me a while to figure out what it was. At first it looked like some kind of fruit.. ^^

Agree about the first two, but I'm not very fond of the third one. I like to see this details about the skill without having it skilled. works perfect the way it is now.
And, about level up: It should be more clear to the players wich of the skills you can choose to improve. This can be done by:
1. Removing maxed skills from the popup and keep those you can't skill in grey.
2. Removing all skills not avaiable to skill from the popup.
3. Keep it the way it is now, but make the available skills more colorful and easier to see (sometimes they almost look grey...).
I think option 2 is the best tbh.
As a sidenote: The popup should show what lvl you GAIN by clicking on the icon, not what you HAVE.

the debuff counter is currently very hard to see.
so my suggestion is:
- When you receive a buff, the icon is fully colored, bright and shiny.
- As time passes it becomes more gray, the same way spells get ready. (the moving "clock" within the icon).
This would making it a lot easier to see instead of the current way of mouseover.

I suggest that if you have took all of your skills, you would automatically get attributepoints (+2 stats). Why you have to get those manually if you've took all other skills/spells.
