I wonder if anyone has already posted it,
but could you please move the "Quit"-button of the confirm dialog in the Main Menu to the left and the "Cancel"-button to the right?

it's just way more intuitive, I always misclick cancel and have to open the dialog twice.

For banlist, I believe they should be optionally shareable with clan members and friends. Maybe like a general Clan Shitlist for example.

the item that does the same thing as vladmir offering in dota, the lifesteal aura does not work to ranged heroes (obvious for anyone who have ever played dota before) but it's not said in the item description in HoN

I didn't find the option when all enemies are shown red and all team is shown white on the minimap. I think its more comfortable option!
Also I think that the red border for emeny health must be larger, because in some battles it's not easy to recognize the enemy...

Modable UI - since Minimap , Inventory, Stash , etc TABS are needed ingame. The Artwork should be optionable - eventual Skins could be avalabile. Legion / Hell Skins for start , neutral , etc.

New scores button that just shows picture and name is great, but after expanding and reclosing scores to see k/d etc, you have to hit the little button below again to restore the minimal view. It doesn't automatically return to the minimal view.

The minimal view should be a toggle that persists through the whole game or until you hit it again. If you open Scores and then close again, it should return to minimal view.

Idea from Consummate, have a minimap scaler option so you change the size of it to prevent accidently clicking it when you are trying to click on the bottom left of the play area.

A setting in Options menu that while allow to see in chat window which player votes 'yes' / 'no'.
Check box could sound like: "Vote results in chat".

Second option: "Player that will see vote results started by me"
with options : "All players / team".

Text in game: [Player Name] votes NO for "Concede/Remake"

DIfferent Colors for people on your Friendlist if they are in a Lobby or if the game has begun. So you can easily see if a friend is playing or if he's waiting to get his game filled up.

The ability to create games with conditional PSR ratings.

ie

PSR < or <= or >= or > so we can limit the players within a game beyond just the noob only filter.

I don't know if these have been mentioned yet or not, but I find that the indicators for leveling up and for your base being under attack aren't obvious enough. If you're in a heated battle, you can come out of it like "oh hey, my base is destroyed by a creepwave" or "oh, I didn't realize I have 5 points to level up with now". It would just be nice if there were better visual/audio queues (e.g. something similar to "our forces are under attack" and a better visual effect for leveling).

Ok first post after first play
The main gripe i have with war 3 engine for DOTA (other than no natural widescreen aspect ratio) is the fact its so far zoomed in i cant see far enough away from my hero

How can you not implement this in HoN??? I can zoom in but not out further than the start zoom! ... this should be a priority (IMHO)

Haven't read all 15 pages of suggestions to know if it's been brought up, but I'd like to see the password field at the login screen work properly for long passwords. If your password is longer than the size of the field, the cursor ends up in a silly spot, rather than at the last character of the field like it should be.

Hi, some tips for a better gaming experiece,

first 50 people per channel is to low,
second: when i create a channel i keep having "conecting to channel" and then i get back to "HoN 14" (example)
I have to wait a lot when changing channles and while im changing channels my buddy list does not work. Friends who are online appera as not online,

well that's all for now =D

by the way cool game =D

3. I want to see in CONTROLS function where i can set buttons to ANY hero in the game. It will be nice for peoples who played DotA a long time and have keyboard-reflexes. =)

Crap. HoN doesn't allow me to go Online. When trying to connect it says "Failed: Bad Data" - so that renders me unable to see what stuff is already done (I'm on a UMTS stick until DSL arrives).

Will add suggestions though.

- Make cg_unitPlayerColors effect the minimap.

I would like to see this option sooner rather then later, as I am partially colorblind I can't effectively tell difference between allies and enemies. Also I suggests option for more contrast colors like white vs red (on minimap like in wc3)

In general the more colorblind friendly options the better. Every 1 out of 12 males has some defect in color vision.

After a concession or a game ends and the stats screen is shown, there should be an easier way to return to the lobby. Currently, I have to click Menu->Disconnect->Okay to disconnect from a finished game, or wait for the timer to run out. Here's what I would prefer. 1) Place a prominent "Leave Game" button after the game has finished, or 2) Get rid of the second dialog box when disconnecting.
The second dialog box is a bad idea, because people will have been trained to click OK, even if one time they will face a penalty. I don't think a disconnection should need that dialog box unless there will be a penalty, that way people will only be notified if there will be consequences to them disconnecting.

I don't like having to refresh the game list every time after returning to the lobby. Could the list be automatically refreshed?

about ping refreshes.
If i understand correctly pings are shown as values of that exact moment when there was ping event to the server, and when you refresh you ping the servers again and the values are updated.
I think it would be better that every refresh would not override old ping values, but instead would calculate an average from ping1+ping2 and so on..

I thought about this because when i choose what server to you for hosting I always select ones with ping ~40ms, but when I create a game ping is always around 80-90, so it would be nice to see more accurate pings in the game list.

one suggestion i've been thinking of that would be extremely helpful would be to add teammate ability indicators right over the heroes themselves.

the only way you can know if someone is ready to use an ability is to glance over to the top left of the screen. however, this isn't very convenient in the middle of a big team fight or while chasing someone down. but if ability indicator lights were on top or to the right/left of your teammates's HP/MP bars, it would make things significantly easier and teamwork/gameplay would improve.

One thing that I would really like to see is more stats and other fun things to look at for your profile. A basically perfect good example is the page they have set up at Throneit.com. Go there, type in someone's name (use mine, "Darfurious", if u need an example) and then click on the name that comes up. You will see that they have a multitude of great stats (which heroes you're best/worst with, etc) as well as other great features (results of all of your past games, on which you can see who played, which heroes they used, which items they got, etc.) graphs of your stats over time, etc. These would all be easy and yet extremely effective things to add to HoN.

I've played a lot of Dota and not much HoN, and I totally agree with this. I almost never notice when I level. It was somehow MUCH easier to see in Dota.

My first few games of HON i also had a very hard time telling the 2 teams apart on a quick glance. Maybe it was just because all the textures were different, but even after playing a few games I still find the teams to be too similar looking. I basically just do it by the color of the thin line surrounding their HP bars.

If there are options to make the 2 teams more distinct, they should be on by default.\

Also, i agree with Sheepweavil, the 3 games I won last night all ended with the other team conceding. The process of getting out of those games was too involved, and I didn't get to see the end of game stats, since I had to Disconnect. When the other team has Conceded, it should immediately say you've won and give you an option of leaving or staying. Also, the post game stats screen disconnects me pretty quickly, even when I was the one who started the game. It appears to have a time-out, and I think thats annoying.

y teams need more differences, this includes heroes on field and minimap, also the cursor when you are targeting an ally or a foe, I have some problems with color recognition (as statistically a lot of men do) so it should be as much contrast as possible.
And the animation of leveling up also should be much more noticeable.

My interface suggestion is at "INGAME" category:

- Make it more obvious that an item have an orb effect and it doesn't stack with other orb effects (in dota, there is a red line under the item description saying: orb effects does not stack ).

I have a hard time finding the stash if I'm not at the shop. I should be able to run into the fountain and immediately see what items are in my stash. Also, If i have six items in my inventory and all the parts to a recipe, but one of the parts is at my stash, I should be able to drop the last piece of the recipe onto my hero and have the item formed. Instead, I have to drop the item on top of something else in my inventory, which it then switches with.

I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet as I was overcome with an instant case of tldr.

And on to the problem...

Because of my horrid internet I often find myself disconnecting from the chat server and the only way to fix this atm is to log out and log back in. A simple /reconnect command or something like that would be great but if it's not that big a problem for people I shall continue relogging after every game :s

P.S Forum links on the Heroes of Newerth home page and possibly somewhere in-game would also be nice.

I find it really annoying when I'm in a game, trying to move items from stash to my hero, when a C&C message pops up right over the stash. Could we get a "disable C&C messages when in game" option?

Also, a slash command that tells how much time has elapsed in a friend's game would be extraordinarily useful.

havent read the entire thread, but OP is great.

kinda an odd thing to point out but when you are leveling an ability to the next level, the icon that you click to go to the next level shows your CURRENT spell level. why? aren't i INCREASING its level.

i think it should show the new level that will be reached, it was very decieving when i first started playing.

One thing I didn't see mentioned that I would like is some way to keep track of summoned pets, like a bar or something of your summoned/controlled/permanent pets.

How about summon images above map?
For example if War Beast summon wolfs, then above map we see two small images with wolf's "faces" and hitpoint's bar.

Maybe some kind of call button?
When you click it, all your summons and captured units run to your hero and start to follow him.

I agree with someone from one number pages :P
When you mastered skill, the button to give a level should disappear.

Items from stock and your equipment should automaticly merge when you are near fountain. I mean, sometimes when I'm in rush (for example, someone is razing my base) I buy three items to combine them, but one is in by bag and two in storage, I must drag them all to storage and then to bag. That's maybe nothing big, but would help ;]

If someone's leave, or was disconnected, his hero should automatically retreat.

It would be useful if, when entering the lobby, a game or the hero selection screen, one didn't have to click on the text field to type

Another useful feature would be being able to save your filters, instead of having to apply them each time you re-enter the lobby/game list (i.e. after logging out then logging in again)

Also, in the shop panel, it would be useful if there was a way to easily distinguish between recipes and normal items (by e.g. a special border for recipe items)

Not sure what the right term is, but the button that shows the minimized view of the Scores box needs some work. Namely, if you have the super minimized view in action, and then hit the main Scores button for more detail on individual player's scores, it resets your prior setting - so when you hit it again, the whole thing disappears instead of just returning to the most minimized view.

If anyone can state this more simply or has the proper term for the super-minimized view, please do so.

I searched this thread and I don't think anyone has posted about this, but...

Is it just me, or do I have a hard time looking for the creeps in the minimap? The dots for the creeps seem too small and are barely visible to me. It would be a great help if they were highlighted a bit more -- at least, like in DotA, if Sentinel is Red, the creeps are Red too.

Can we add a "default chat channel" option? or some way of setting this in-game? i am really sick of trying to go back to my friends chat channel every time i enter a match/leave a match i have this huge list of chat windows that i dont want at all.

it should send me back to my custom chat channel if i choose it that way... or even if there was just a default chat channel (maybe this is true for clans?)

and also, the list of chats has no way to scroll once you have too many for the screen space, it just goes over the boxes and glitches down... this is probably a good hint that you're doing it wrong. nobody needs all these game lobby windows and certainly once a match is over the chat COULD be archived, but for it to be there and selected is a bit weird IMO

Also, in random draft mode on the hero selection screen, after all players for a given round select their heroes, the timer still counts down for the full amount. Maybe I'm just impatient, but having it go to the next round of picks immediately would save some time.

What woudl really be good - if we could zoom out even more.
I mean, its difficult to play even on very high resolution 1680x1050.
Imagine, two melee heroes in one team, lvl 1, one melee, like swift blade and second doesn't mater who, but someone disabling, like, pollywog for example or electrician.
I have found that my screen doesn't cover "safe" distance between them and creeps, and than creeps and me.

A simply bigger zoom out could be additional option, at the cost of hardware I guess, but i don't think it would make THAT much damage to FPS and make game much more managable.

is it possible to make the shops list movable? so that the user can move the boxes to where they would like (ie closer to the inventory)
like in dota how the shops would display items next to your invent.. maybe make it so the boxes can be moved above the HUD horizontally :)

it seems to me that the games list loads 'backwards' - it loads and displays the highest pinging games first, and then fills in the rest of the games from high to low ping.

i have it set to display by ping, low ping on top, but this is definitely not the order in which the games load. it seems odd. (for clarification i am not talking about the order they are listed, but the order in which they are loaded in order to be listed).

My 2 cents : Soulstealer's first skill keys (a.k.a shadow raze from nevermore) should be remapped automatically to the first/second/third ability keys. His second and third abilities are passives, so it isn't a problem. And this is how it works in dota.

In the Singledraft mode hero selection screen, the order of the hero types is AGI, INT, STR. This is confusing because everywhere else in the game the order is STR, AGI, INT.
In Random or Draft hero selection screens, there should be a button to push that indicates that you are willing to switch heroes with other teammates, and advertises what hero(es) you currently have. This would streamline the "Anyone want to switch? I have hero1, hero2, hero3" process.
AFAIK (and I searched), there's no way to see your latency while in-game. You should be able to see your ping and everyone else's on the F10 screen.

Yes, PLEASE , implement the use of the ESC (escape) key! It's a pain in the butt to have to press whatever specific key to close chat/community winows, games list, option windows, menu windows (i.e. F6 or F10 or clicking the tiny red X circle, etc.)

It's probably one of the biggest annoyances of the game. ESC should just be the default 'exit out of' key (including eventually exiting the game), like it is everywhere else.

Not sure where I should post this: I find when clicking on an enemy hero (any unit really) its hard to see how much health they have and even more so what items they are carrying. Perhaps if this was enlarged or centralized on the interface rather then in the corner would make it easier to see what the enemy hero is carrying at a quick glance.

In one game engine (rts engine) you could draw lines with (~+left click), place markers (~+middle click), place markers/pings with text (~+double left click) and erase all that mess (~+right click). It was all done on the game map, NOT minimap. Combination of lines and ping on minimap and on game map would be really nice

Another cool feature was that you draw in your own color (if your green thne green and so on).

Maybe there is, but I dont know about it. A hotkey to center on last ping (might circle further back if multiple times pressed).

Center on hero, double tap for select

Hotkey for heightmap, when new maps come out it might come in handy.

Private messages pop up on top of item stash during game, having active clan makes it sometimes hard to pick up items due to message spam.

Am I the only one that finds my self always msg'ing my friends and asking them the same question?

"How much longer for your game?"

Well why not just display that information, time played/score, that way we can at a glance decide if we should wait for a game to run it's course or play another in the mean time.

Also, I hate that a player's name is gold if they are in a running game, or in a lobby wait for a game to fill. This clearly needs an indicator!
Why not have gold for games that are up, and bronze for games that are still in lobby mode?

Last complaint.

I right click someones stats, then I have to click the show stats tab... odd choice, that should come down.
Secondly, I should not lose focus, it would be nice to be able to continue to right click for stats rather than switching to a new method.

I have a suggestion to make involving not so smart players following me and several of my friends around to games. These not so smart players can easily add me to their buddy list and right click my name to follow me around while looking for a game. When I obviously do not want them to follow me.

So i would like to see the buddy list change to have a mutual effect sort of like Battle.net. In order for other players to follow me around or know where i am the friend request needs to be mutual. We both need to be on each others buddy list to be able to easily follow each other around.

Hello, here is my suggestion. I really loved how choosing sentinel or scourge team in dota defined the in-game UI (wood and leaves for the sentinel and brick wall with spikes etc for the scourge) so since HoN is supposed to be graphically enhanced I believe this kind of feature should be implemented. What do you think?

i suggest implementing a feature that locks the minimap so that when you click on it, nothing happens
i find sometimes on Legion when i am trying to run away i accidentally click on the top right of the minimap (hellbournes base) then start running towards the enemy and often end up dying because of this. i think this would help benefit quite a few people :)

Change disconnect and lost status because of kick, my team just kick me because i was carrying and when we are about to win they just ****ing kick me.....

Another solution to that is that create a limit like if the player stayed in the game for 15 minute you can't kick him to stop the abuse.

Global announcement should show up in right down corner, just as IM messages does. The different is that it should be green/yellow/red (instead of blue) depending if all the servers will go down, or if it is a minor update whatever. Clicking on the message will give u some sort of info if if u should expect server shutdown, or that a crash may happen.


Disable Play online while updating game. Its happend me sometimes that i miss that the game is updating. So i wonder what is happening as i cant connect or find any servers. By disable play online button while updating (as i cant play even if i would like to), you make it more visible!

Realeaselog after update. This is just because iam lazy =)
But it would be nice if after the update is installed, i will have a little blue box with Ok button where i can read changelog. :P

More advanced options. Like removing certain heroes. Maybe u want to play a game without OP heroes?

SHOP:
-Make it possible to drop items from your stash directly to the ground. (this is currently possible by first landing it on a courier) This would allow your teammate on your lane to bring you additional items from the base when he backs/dies so you don't have to go back by yourself when you got full hp to get your boots.

INGAME:
-Red cross over skills you don't meet level requirements for. Some spells (like moonqueens ulti) are by nature somewhat grey, and you won't be able to tell if you can put a skillpoint on it or not.
-Green check over skills you've allready maxed out. Currently you can see a small 4 (3 for ultis) but this is hard to tell.
-Give an assist for casting spells.
iex. glacius uses spells in a teamfight so mostly he won't get any assits even though he most likely held down 2-3 opponents and slowed them down
-When hovering the icons on the scoreboard (top right) display the heroes names. It's really hard to tell which hero it is by looking at thoose small icons.

Concerning in game interface:

recently i've played Ophelia who is the equivalent of Chen from dota (favourite hero) and i use ctrl+1 function to select all my units that i have dominated. When in HoN i have noticed that when i use this function and press 1 it selects all the units, but it does not select my hero on top of the others, which is quite irritating when trying to string together a few spell combos between my hero and the stunners. On pressing 1 the minators are selected over my hero, :(. In Wc3 if you grouped units in this way it would generally place the most important unit (usually your hero) 'on top' of the others allowing you to cast spells from your most important unit first.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I would love to se an option to turn off PSR numbers, so just the host can see the PSR numbers and the procentage. But you would see the gain in PSR, to see that it is not a totally unbalanced game.

Dont know how many people that have left when they see that the opposite team has 7% more chance to win...

When you kill a creep the amount of gold you get is shown. When a creep is killed near you the experience of the creep that it gives is also shown.

Lets do the same thing for nukes: Show the amount of damage it did on impact. I suggest only nukes because damage over time spells or just every spell, will probably make it too messy.

Please excuse me for bringing this up again, but it's really difficult for color blind players like myself to differentiate enemies from allies. Please add some sort of non-color dependent indicator in game to help us. This could be an option in the menu we can turn on.

The game Peggle has a Color Blind option and it makes a world of difference.

In the game lobby: I would like to see an option for players to request a lock on their own slot. I often play with 2 other friends, join a server and when the server is full, the host shuffles the team so we get all mixed up. I always ask the host to lock us, but he doesn't always listen.. :P

My suggestion is to make the 'lock indicator' in front of a players name clickable by the player. Clicking the dot makes it turn into a questionmark. The host can then click it again to lock the player (as he usually would).

I you don't wanna press the link, think of it like whenever you have bought a part of a recipe item, next time you press the shop a quick-window will come up with the remaining parts of the recipe.
If you for example buy Chainmail in the Daemonic Breastplate recipe section, the game will assume that you are buying that recipe and therefore a quickshop will show up when you visit the shop that will contain the remaining Daemonic Breastplate parts. If you bought the Chainmail from the Weapons section though, no quickshop appears.

While connecting to a game users see nothing but a progress bar and a loading screen. If possible, there should definitely be a "Cancel" button so if you accidently click on a game you didn't want to join you can quickly disconnect instead of having to wait.

I noticed that people often miss when Kongor and couriers are killed, because it's only displayed in the chat window for a short amount of time. Would it not make sense to get some kind of visual notification and have a sound FX play whenever Kongor or a courier is killed? This would be similar to the "DENIED" message that is played each time a tower is denied.

Whenever Kongor is killed the announcer would say "KONGOR HAS FALLEN" and the same message would also appear on screen, in the same font as the "DENIED" message, but with a color representing the team that killed Kongor (hellbourne or legion)

When a courier is killed the announcer would say "COURIER INTERCEPTED!" and the same message would also appear on screen, with the same font as the "DENIED" announcment, and also here in the color of the team that intercepted (killed) the courier.

I'm not sure if this could be done, but I would like Hero specific hotkey options. Where you can setup the hotkeys for certain heros(Item hotkeys included) and when you select the hero ingame your keys are saved. I just thought it would be convient for people that are used to playing certain characters a certain way and wouldn't have to change the keys up every game if they wanted. Just a suggestion, might sound ludicrous to some but it was an idea I had.

I like this idea. When turned on it should always be visible though, e.g. in the lobby, chat room, main menu etc. You can ignore the various loading screens since they're negligible. Quite often you don't realise the time and go 'overtime', I suppose.

I have to say I don't like the way the shop icons are set up. Coming from DotA, obviously we're going to have to relearn a few interface things, but the problem is that things are just completely not-obvious, including the ordering of various icons and lack of clarity as to exactly what items we're looking at (just from the icons).

It may be because of the lack of contrast (that is, icons aren't -distinct-) among shop icons and item icons (for example, Morph Attack has 5/9 icons that are blue). Partly it might be because of the smaller icons so it's harder to make distinctions.

Another thing is, why are the "early game" or "Necessity" shop icons (Relics and Supplies) somewhere in the middle, when they should really be at the top? "Ingredient" shops (Accessories and Weapons) should of course follow afterward, and then the various "Recipe" shops (Supportive, Protective, Combative, Morph Attack). Hard to say where the Secret Shop and Outpost should be placed, either after Weapons, or as the last icons (as they are now, I believe). Better still would be to visually group the icons logically. Or maybe just give us an option to re-order the icons as we please (and save/lock the ordering to our account/profile/installation).

Other things that I've personally noticed, is that there is not enough contrast between Heroes (models, that is), other units, and the terrain (and contrast among terrain as well), which is an interface and gameplay issue, really.

Another very specific thing is the Steam Boots recipe. When you view it (for purchasing individual items), it only ever shows the Bolstering Armband, rather than the Agi and Int equivalents, it would be good to be able to cycle through them at the View Recipe dialogue; or failing that, have the displayed item dependent upon your hero's main stat (since most times that's the item you're going to get). May also be applicable to the Staff of the Master (Edit: Uhh never mind. It's the old Aghanim's Scepter, not the new one).

You might think this is a lot of nit-picking, but I prefer to call it polish. And that's what we want, isn't it?

I would love to see some support for information viewable on a dual moniter (obviously not clickable to still allow scrolling in a game) It should be toggleable, with, hopefully, the ability to display/hide and move the features you want.
- Larger minimap, I find the current one can be a bit small (maybe its the resolution) when just glancing. The current one would need to stay to be able to ping/change camera view. This could also have different teams as different shapes or something to help the colourblind people as was posted above.
- Non fading in game chat, potentially scrollable via hotkey
- Non fading in game kill/assist text, potentially scrollable via hotkey
- Permentant Scoreboard
- Some kind of non in game chat, possibly guild, or a channel, or whispers, able to be written to via hotkey.
I am sure there are other things that I cannot think of that could be displayed here.

1) on your friends list different colors to show the status of your buddy.
- White --> Online and not idle
- Red --> Game in progress
- Grey --> idle (5 minutes minimum)
- Green --> In game that has not started yet

2) Games lists show the average rating of players in each game

i opened a thread with the following suggestions, but it didn't have much relevance, so i copy it in here, hoping to be listed in the first post.

small improvements i'd like to see:

- while on the game list: if i press esc, the game list closes. if i press it again, it returns on the main menu. once again, the game asks to quit.

- autobalance is automatic (of course you can still lock people) before starting a game: i don't see a reason there shouldn't be autobalance in a game.

- keep the last settings i used for the options "no leavers, easy mode, etc.": right now, each time i restart the game all options are "?" by default. the same goes for filters (like map, mode, tier, etc.). also, for filters, the possibility to have multiple choices, like for tier both noobs allowed and noobs only; for game type both RD and SD; and so on.

My vote is on an option before game, similar to Shuffle Teams, but Autobalance... But still keep the in-lobby autobalance, or something like that xD
- different model for heroes (not only heroes with 2 legs - moon queen is the only hero with a particular model)

1. Add multi-type locks.. so that if there's say, 3 groups of 2 people, I can lock each group of 2 seperately and autobalance understands it can move all 3 groups of 2 around as long as it keeps them together.

2. Make autobalance a game MODE as well as how it is now - then people know it will be ab, and that the host can't not ab.. it forces ab at start.

I was thinking that in the extras tab wen your creating a game ther can be a "Mask Heroes" chekbox, and it prevents you form seeing what the oponent choses in the beginning of a game.
So the legion cant see what the hellboarn have chosen as heroes and vice versa.

Sorry if some of these have already been listed, don't have time to read through the whole thing at the moment. Great job maintaining this thread Ride. Some things I was just considering:

Game List
The ability to see the host of the game either by mousing over the game name or by clicking it etc. The reason for this is that there are often multiple games named something like '5v5 RD' in the list at once, and it makes it hard to tell them apart. The other days, one of these had a host that was afk, and I accidentally rejoined it twice thinking it was a different game.

This improvement could possibly be expanded to having the ability to see all players/ratings in a game to know if it is the right skill level for you to join. The title might say only '5v5 RD' and be filled with mostly 1750+ people. It'd be nice to know that if you're only rated 1450 or so.

Courier system:
Possibly a checkbox on the shop(or interface options) to always put the items on an in range courier instead of making you select that courier as your primary unit. I keep accidentally having my hero or my courier selected and moving the wrong one trying to shop while last hitting/denying.

In Game VOIP
Add the hero and player name in a more visible display somewhere on the screen so you don't have to quickly search around the minimap and match up who is talking.

Post Game Stats
Allow you to have more time (not necessarily in the game, maybe you get disconnected from the actual game but can still view stats) to review how everything went and analyze choices made by players etc. There's a whole lot of information to look at on that screen in less than a minute.

I have a hard time following what is going on during team fights. Effects fills the screen, I can't tell enemy from foe and lose track of my own hero. My team fights usually consist of me premeditating an action, trying to execute it and hoping for the best. Quite often I find myself clicking on the screen after the dust clears up, only to see my heroes' useless carcass pushing daisies.

Given that I didn't have those problems in Dota, I'm going out on a limb here and blame part of this on the presentation. Hopefully to suggestions to make heroes glow more make this better, but it'd make me very happy if

* I could set the level of effects
* the models' textures would use more of the team colors (the current option is not clear enough to me)
* there was some indicator on my hero (circle around its feet ?)

Add a game option so that you cannot see the other teams picks. You can only see your teams picks. This is to eliminate counter teams. Especially on all - pick where you will have the Most trouble. On all pick mode, set it so that opponents picks will not disappear, however if you click a chosen pick you will get a repick with no gold lost. if you try to guess, and guess wrong, you have lost gold if you repick.

E.g
team 1 picks pollywog priest.

t2 attempts to pick pollywog, "char in use error" No gold lost with a free repick.

However since it costs gold to guess, this discourages guessing your opponents team making it fair.

- Can set stat of the player, like : "WAITING FOR INVITATION","AWAY","", maybe with an icon like "INGAME" players, this will make that people that looking for player know if the player its available for invitation.

- Make a diferent sound from INVITATION that a simple message!, (very usefull). That because im allways waiting for an invitation with the game minimized, and i cant know if someone its sending a msg or an invitation because both have the same sound.

to whisper to another player, you should not have to type in the entire name. it should work like in a terminal window where you can type in the first letter of the players name and then hit TAB to auto fill.

Awesome idea with the buff/debuff countdown. It would be sweet to make it more noticable as well (bigger, popup on screen, relocated). Sometimes you won't realize that you've a debuff on!

It would be cool to have a "follow games" checkbox in a friends rightklick menue. So every game your friend joins will autoconnect you to that game too.

This would make playing pubs with friends much easier.
Also, it would be nice if you can somehow "link" to that friend, so other friends can join that games too, and connected somehow to the gamelist filter, so the system can check if there are slots for like 3/4 friends.

That system would also help avoid slot reservation and/or kick of players you don't want to have in your game. So when you create a game your friends will automatically connect too.

Edit: What i mean is not basically the same as a Matchmaking system, not that complex, but kinda that way... would be nice to have both...

it will be cool to have a "show game info" button for players that are still playing. (there's a function like that for friends on steam)
it will show names of players that are in that game, their k/d/a, points of the 2 teams, the match time, ping of the server and other useful stuff
i'm just bored of asking my friends how their matches are going and when they are going to finish the match xD

It'd be nice to have an option to queue items you wish to buy, then when you accumulate the gold it auto buys your item and places them in the stash. This is nice when during a team battle you get enough gold but then die and lose the gold and have to wait to buy your expensive item again. Wouldn't work for outpost items, but for normal store/stash items.

I really, really like League of Legend's map. It's hand-drawn, very clear (HoN's is really dark), and I like that towers/buildings have their own icons. The Hero icons are also a great boon. So, I don't know if it'd be too "un-DotA" to incorporate it, but I would love if it were to be looked in to.

- add pictures of the old "dota" heroes, that can be accessed by (maybe) shift and click on the hero, to help new players figure out who they are fighting agains (ME INCLUDED :D)

- extend the "what can you do with this item"-thingy (shift on items in shop) to the inventory

- add a feature that makes suggestions what to do out of your items in your inventory
(in dota: if you have a perseverance and a claymore you will be proposed to get a mitril hammer in order to build a battle fury)

Do you remember WC3 Minimap position? It is in the right down corner. Allso, WC3 interface was all-one lined, hes minimap wasnt that big.
And we have a minimap in the left corner here in HoN, and its bigger, and its not <lined> with all other interface.
I just dont know how to explain this clearly, but i and my friends died nearly 50 times, just because we were missclicking on minimap with my right-mouse button, than, SUDDENLY, my hero turned back and most likely get killed by angry enemy gang.

Allso i can admit: creeps move like |down-left corner <-> top right corner| Minimap on their way. You got what i mean, right? I missclicked for minimap in WC3 1 time per 50 games, in HoN i do so missclicks 1 time per 10 games. Just because of the map position, and creep move on the game map.

So the thing i needed (and i think - not only me) is to "turn off move your units by clicking minimap" in the interface options.
I just dont know, maybe there will be some interface mods about this, but why not create one button in the options menu?

Now the other, not important thing (its not a bug, just my opinion about game graphics):
In WC3 In-game-model and Interface-model of the heroes/units was different. I mean, if you, for example, look for WC3 Orc unit GRUNT. He has a bad scaled in-game model, and another model of his face for the interface, where he saying this epic "zag-zag" warcry.
I just dont know how its working in HoN, but, honestly, i just dont like more than 50% of the interface-hero-models. Special anger i got for the Dark Lady! It looks like he didnt sleep for ages!
Do something with this, please. Just a good modelled face of the hero, which will look around sometimes would be anyway better. You dont need to do speech animation. Just make it nicer to look.

I think you don't even need a confirmation to quit the game.
The button is big enough and only available in the main menu (as far as I know, I have to exit out of the chat interface to go back to the main menu, to click quit).

When I click on the quit button, you can be sure that my decision is made to close the game, I don't see the point in asking again.


I can see the use of such a button if for example I would press Alt-F4 while in a game... but not for the main button on the main menu.

As far as I know, there's no list of your bans, which means that if you've made a mistake, you can't unban a player (or I haven't found that option).
Adding an option to view your bans and unban someone could be nice, even more if bans are shared with other players.

1. Make the interface scaleable. I'm dying on my 1280x800 resolution, I don't even want to imagine how it looks like on more..

im on 1920x1200 - its crazy. for example the spell-ready dots on the panel for your allies: NO way. please make it scalable (without mods to use). the only option i found so far is scaling the hp bars which does not work!

great game so far, i'm looking forward to new mechanics and overall evolution of it.

Could we get better in game notification of who is speaking on mic? I'm thinking like counter strike source where a box pops up in the bottom left hand corner of the screen and then fades out when the person releases the mic. I'm still having a lot of trouble finding out which hero is talking and who's voice is who with the current system (1.44)
It would be better if it popped up eg. Swiftblade - User Name with a mic icon somewhere in the UI.

GLOBAL: Also, could we change the friends list to show how many minutes a friend has been in game via User info and how they are going?

You should make it so that on your friends list, there should be a different color for if they are in a full lobby, a lobby with room, and in game. That way its easier to communicate with your friends and start games together.

-When pinging on an ally to warn/address him, maybe add a visible effect radiating outwards from the allied hero like it does on the mini-map.
It would be especially helpful to warn noobs that don't pay any attention to the mini-map. :)
-Add a buff icon (or a progress bar on the spell icon) when using channeling spells or spells that last amount of time/damage to see the duration of it.

Glad I found this, some nice suggestions. I have one that I don't think is there - making it so you can't right click on spells that aren't toggleable to autocast(e.g. Arachna's Webshot). Saves you from accidentally right clicking skills when you are clicking to move(like clicking the minap by accident and moving in the wrong direction). Its not like it needs to be there, since you can left click.

Btw I second the suggestion of Minimap icons' colours being toggleable, but I think player owned units should be white like in WC3(and make symbols for shops), since blue is already taken for a hero slot. I had made a thread about it already(in mah sig:cool:), since I didn't know about this thread then.

If it's not here I also think there should be a textline/sound notification for a host balancing teams(and switching players) as discussed in the other thread in my sig. That one has got a lot of positive replies. :)

Edit: Just got a good idea from blakeshotgun (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showpost.php?p=331212&postcount=11) that heroes's illusions dots should be different on the minimap if you're on their team. My ideas were that they should be coloured the same colour as the hero, but have a diffrent colour border, or be square like other player owned units should be Imo.

- Make it easier to ban someone. With WC3 Banlist you could do something like /banlast 'comment' which would automatically fill in all kinds of information if you had it set up to do so. This could probably be incorporated into some of the menus as well.

I think this would be useful in getting scrim/ringer/recruitment channels going. As most people who play do not use mIRC.

example:

On hero selection screen when a hero is chosen there should be something to draw attention to the "Ready" button. Make it glow, flash, or cycle through a colour gradient so that the player realises that he should press the button.

I'd like to recommend a tool tip correction. Currently when hovering over a locked slot in the game lobby, it says this:

"The host has locked this slot. No player can not take a locked slot and Auto Balance will not move players from locked slots."

In the part where it says "No player can not..." It is a double negative and is basically cancelling itself out. I'd recommend that the "not" in that part be taken out.

I totally agree with the 1/2 that I've read so far. Making minor adjustments to make it easier for me to connect with friends i think is a top priority.

That includes making it easier to initiate chat with one person or to join a chat channel with a group of friends. This can be resolved by committing previously joined channels to memory so you don't have to rejoin every time you get on (the joined chat channels interface isn't working for me at all currently).

Also, right-clicking on a friend to join a game that they're already in would also be nice.

There's a mod available that lets you toggle being able to right-click the minimap.

I got a few things to add also :)

The Menu System:
The menu system is not very intuitive, at least quiting takes WAY to long. You have to click the Game List button to see the Main Menu button and then you can quit the game with a silly little noise delay. I actually just tab out and kill the process cause it is faster. Redesign it please. Why bother with a main menu anyway just put it all together in one screen.

Chat Box Focus:
Chat boxes should always have focus even when you de-select them. If you start typing something it should appear in the chat box instead of nowhere.

Game Lobby Team/All Chat:
In the game lobby shift-enter and enter should do the same as ingame, enter for team chat shift-enter for all. I find myself again and again writing in team say while wanting to type in all. Cause in the game lobby you wanna type in all, but while picking a hero you wanna type in team say.

CC Panel:
If you /w someone it doesn't appear in your F6 panel. Like if you've chatted with someone in F6 and do a /w person it doesn't show there. A bit of consistency would be nice. All though the F6 panel is nice it feels a little detached.

Player Linking:
In the game lobby the host is able to lock spots which is nice, however it would be very neat if people could "link" to each other without requiring the approval/interaction of the host. That would also allow linked players to be swapped between teams for better balance.

Countdown:
In the countdown for a game you're unable to remove yourself from the team using the big red Ø by your nick in an effort to stop the countdown you have to leave. Seems odd to me, if host forgot to lock players and they got swapped around to the wrong teams interrupting the countdown is handy. I'd like to strongly suggest the above linking feature, again :)

Create Game:
The ability to set a min and or max PTR rating for players to enter your game.

Just a few things, much more to come... SO MUCH MORE! ;)

Can someone perhaps write a mod that calculates the remaining cost of the items you're making?

So if I am making Shrunken Head and I already bought the 10 str item and am out farming I can see the remaining cost of the two other items (+16 damage and the recipe itself) so instead of me having to calculate how much longer I have to farm it already displays the number for me.

EX: I bought the 10 str item for Shrunken Head already (and currently have 2263 gold) and am out farming I want to hover over Shrunken Head item in Defensive items tab and see that I need 637 more gold to complete the item.

Its just so annoying sometimes having to calculate something in my head even for 1 second and not fully focus to whats going on during the game.

My biggest problem is the points to spend after level up (the level-up isn't as obvious as it was in DotA, and the points to spend buttons are tiny). I am getting used to it, but it was really annoying at first.

This is more of a game-suggestion since it would be pointless as a mod.
the ability to "ring" the host of a game, that will then play a sound on their PC.
E.g. a host goes AFK/alt-tabbed while waiting for a game to fill up, when it's full you can /ring them to get their attention.

Remove the "leave clan" option from the rightclick menu on your name in channel. Make it only available if you right click your name in your clan list in the C&C panel(F6), or by chat command(as it is now I think).

Also make it so that you can turn clan members join/leave games or online/offline notifications separately to your buudy list. I.e you can disable the notifications for your clan, but they still pop up for anyone on your buddy list(even if they are in you clan).

INGAME: Ability to use hotkeys to learn skills similar to DotA. Maybe Ctrl+Q-R. Or if you open up the skill learning menu make it so that if you have it open you can't use your skills at the moment and you can just use Q-R to learn a skill then it cancels out of the skill learning menu which is also similar to DotA. I know it's more efficient to just click on the skill itself, but I've played DotA for many years so I'm used to clicking near the bottom right and then pressing a hotkey to learn my skill and I would like to return to that familiarity.

SUGGESTION: Allow teams to "pre"-select the heroes they are going to play, without actually selecting them. Perhaps a right click could que the phantom image in the player spot. That way your team can see what hero you are "looking at" or "want" to play, while still not yet having made a final decision. I hate having to wait till the last 5 seconds to choose my hero because I have no idea what the rest of my team is going to play.

A fairly simple suggestion I have is to be able to "rank" games on more than just 1 selection: now it standard starts off with ping, but I would like to be able to select on slots available and ping. Or on type, ping, and slots. And so on?

The way I see this work, would be if the buttons were toggleable instead of interchanging. Standard is list on best ping. Click again is visa versa, click again is turn ping selection off. Might need some modification, as the issue is then what would it show upon turning off, would it go to random, name etc.?

Edit: It seems the problem is that the engine never passes the actual mana cost to the UI. I guess I'd solve that by making the mod an add-on to the encyclopedia mod, so it can use the encyclopedia to automatically look up the values.
(the alternative is to intercept the ability tooltips when they are displayed since they obviously contain the mana cost information; that might get a bit messy though)

Edit2: Nvm, grabbing it from the tooltips is way easier ;)

The default hotkey-layout doesn't change when you use the AZERTY keyboard-layout and you have manually change everything.
It should adapt automatically to the layout of the OS like in other games. Or make it easier to change and have a list of layouts to chose from.

Please add some more support for the animal couriers. I'd like to see the "Drop All Items" ability return again, and allies should be able to take wards of sight/revelation that were bought by another player from the courier (right now the person that bought the wards has to be asked to drop them from the courier, allies not allowed to touch them until they are).

Also it makes sense to be able to drop items from your Stash onto the ground, so an ally could pick it up (makes sense for items you want brought to your lane, or if you want to buy a courier/wards for the team).

And if you have an Astrolabe / Ring of Sorcery / or similar item/ability (such as Nymphora's ability) it would be great to have a quick way to communicate to your team to gather up. Because right now every time you get that item you gotta tell everyone to get close every time, or just opt not to and do the best heal/mana recharge you can.

I have a suggestion for lobby/hero select chat and Team/All drop box. I would like the chat to behave like ingame: Return to send to team only and shift+return to send to all.
This could work together with the box, just changing to all when you hold shift down.
Accidentally telling all which hero you are going to pick happens all too often:P

I would like an option to simply remove the "Recommended Items" button from the shop menu. Or may just move it to the bottom instead of the top of the menu. The recommended items are mostly terrible and just get in the way when I'm clicking through the shop.

add shortcuts for adding skill point/s on a certain skill...
it helps a lot especially in times of emergency/clashes
