How well does this function with buffs/debuffs that have charges over the icon?

Vadi
08-16-2009, 04:52 PM
See the Caveat Emptor. We haven't yet figured out an easy way to allow that to happen - besides coding a program that'll manage this. Which we'll probably start on soon.

Vadi

I haven't tested that yet. As far as I remember, charges don't have timers on them - but if that's the case, the timer will overwrite the charges (and I'll fix that so they're okay together).

it depends, if both mods modify the same file then only 1 will work, though you can combine them yourself if you can figure out which code is doing what

which 2 mods are you using?

No, you'll have to manually look at whats different in both and merge them into a single file in a text editor

This new version is not working for me ever since 1.40 came out. The only other mod I'm using is 015, the one that tells you the stats in the game lobby and I don't believe that uses game.interface and shouldn't cause problems. Any ideas why that is? Also why is the file named game.interface? I thought it was resources012.s2z last time?

Here is the missing codes, I have no idea how could this effect your mods, but it does works for me

Look for this line in the game.interface file of the mod:

font="dyn_14"

Change the number to 16 or 22 and test it to see how big the number gets. I haven't confirmed this, but it's what I think determines the number size of the buff indicator.

I looked through the code real quick to see what it was that put the number on the buff. Here's what I've found so far:

Under the following:

<template name="state_icon">

Look for this line:

ontrigger1="SetText(FtoT(param, 0, 0, '-') # 's'); SetVisible(param gt 0);"

And the repeat for the one under:

<template name="hero_state_icon">

Unfortunately, I don't know what number in there can determine font size. If Vadi or another experienced modder can chime in on that, you can get your answer.

A few lines above the code you showed, there's font="dyn_14". just make the number bigger, and tada, bigger font size. If you don't like it in white, you can change the color. color format is either a color word or in color="R G B A" format.

I just checked once again and noticed that the number couldn't be bigger than the icon
cause it will then resize to minimum size and that's why I couldn't change it before.

I just adjust them 2 size bigger, 14->16, 16->18, and it does work :D

Around lines 1800 (I think) you have to make another change.

Search for '-16h' and change it to '-14h'.

Yeah I did it to save having to upload to another site, makes it easier for people with NoScript or who don't like file sharing sites. And I figure if they don't know how to rename a file extension, they shouldn't be touching mods.:p

HeavySoul

If I were to write a wishlist...

In order of usefulness:
1- Movable/positionable anywhere on the screen. (To allow for the best match with different UIs.)
2- Choice of #s in front of or above icon.
3- Adjustable font size.
4- Size slider/value.
5- Opacity slider/value.
6- Orientation toggle. (vertical, horizontal, rotate, etc.)

Thanks for the interest!

Bard's UI covers half of those already? =P

MaxGhost
10-05-2009, 07:40 PM
I doubt this mod will go any further than that, especially because Bard's UI does most of those things already. There's no real point to add to this.

HeavySoul
10-05-2009, 07:58 PM
Ok if you're using BardUI, but what about using it with other UIs? For example, aren't BardUI and TinyUI incompatible?

If not, and they work well together, then great. I am not looking to create extra work for people - just offer suggestions on how things can work better.

Your download link is broken. :(

DtMage

You can make this mod easily to work with newest patches. Open up resources0.s2z file which can be found from Heroes of Newerth\game\ directory. This file opens up fine with WinZip. Inside you fill find game.interface file, copy that to your desktop(example).

Open up game.interface with Notepad. Inside are <template name="state_icon"> and <template name="hero_state_icon"> which can be easily found with search.

Under them you can find <label section, here is example how I have modified "state_icon" template's label:

<label
font="dyn_16"
textalign="center"
textvalign="center"
color="white"
shadow="true"
watch="ActiveInventoryCharges{slot}"
ontrigger="SetVisible(param gt 0); SetText(param);"
watch1="ActiveInventoryDuration{slot}"
ontrigger1="SetText(FtoT(param, 0, 0, '-')); SetVisible(param gt 0);"
/>What I have done is I've added those last two lines. They add cooldown as a number inside buff/debuff. I've also changed fontsize from 14 to 16 to help noticing numbers more easily.

Do this same trick to label under "hero_state_icon" if you want numbers to buffs/debuffs which are under heroportrait at upperleft corner. (Here keep font at 10 so numbers fit inside)

This original Vadi's mod added timer to buffs/debuffs like "5s", I've left that "s" off so there will be only numbers visible. Original also changed size of buffs/debuffs icons to larger but I personally prefer use original sized icons.

After these changes save game.interface that is @ your desktop. Then put this modified game.interface inside Heroes of Newerth\game\ui\ directory and it works like a charm.

This is easy and fast way to create a useful mod to yourself and you don't have to wait for new version of this after every patch this mod goes broke. Example after last patch older version worked fine otherwise but it broke "Z" texthistory and it did not open. So i copied new patched original game.interface and added these few lines to it and everything worked like it should be again.

No because it's not being updated by the author. MiniUI, BardUI, BarterUI all have that function if you really want it. There's also a .honmod version that works in the honmod repository.

One upside of this MOD is that it improves the icons shown next to your hero portrait shown in the default unitframes (top left). Hence I'm still using it although going through various other buff indicator mods (BarterUI, Bard's UI and now settling for Asiapingpong's excellent mod).

Snake_Eyes
04-13-2010, 03:20 AM
so hon mod manager avoids conflicts??

Jager
04-13-2010, 06:13 AM
In most cases. s2z files are archives(zips) which contain files to replace the standard files. The Hon Mod Manager uses honmods to combine any changes into the same file(this is the one called resources999.s2z in your Heroes of Newerth/game folder) so they can both be in the same s2z archive.

In some cases honmods will still overlap if they use the same portion of the UI or screen space to add a new element(or more) though. In which case they need to be written to be compatible by the author if possible, or you might just have to choose one or the other.

In addition to the extra compatability honmods give over plain s2z files, the Mod Manager can automatically reapply(update the resources999.s2z file it makes) for each new patch. This means as long as the small area of code the mod is editing hasn't between changed, it will be able to be used without causing problems.

then u click on "click here to download your file"

If you want the .s2z on the first post (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showpost.php?p=147060&postcount=1)...just rightclick it and "save file as"
