Slither Bans

Lately, every competitive game I see has Slither banned, and I'm curious why this is. Slither is undoubtedly a strong hero and a great laner, and one of my favorites to play, but I don't necessarily feel like he is a must ban hero. Is he stronger in these higher tier games for a reason? Is his versatility and pushing/turtling/ganking power the problem? Maybe it's the synergy of his several slows.

I feel like everything slither does, polly can do just as well, and I rarely see him banned (though he is often picked). I am probably overlooking one of his strengths..

Anyway, I would appreciate any insight on this.

Mostly when slith is banned so it polly and defiler (from time to time), they're just godly pushers and if you're thinking about turtleing you might want to ban them.

I ban his cos he is annoying ... He just is, counters gank strat, can hold off a certain degree of push strat, and pushes so well it's hard to turtle vs him.

He's borderline FP material, so you could fp him, but you'd give up something big to do so. That said, if you fp something else, he's an easy second pick, and REALLY annoying to play against. More than that, he can play a ton of roles, so if the opposing team picks him up, you can't counterpick their lane strategy easily.

That's my opinion at least, as to why he is permabanned

All powerful pusher heroes are insta banned in competitive gaming. Slither is one of them.

He's a variation on polywog, who tbh, IS banned in almost every comp game I see now. When he's not banned, he's picked 100% of the time. There are just some heros that, when unbanned, will certainly be picked. Personally I like to ban slither when I have first pick, but not when I don't have first pick. He's a much better second or third pick than first pick and BP there's usually a hero more dominant on the board to pick up first. So you either have to give up the dominant pick and grab slither or risk being vs. a slither... neither are desirable and there a ton of other heros I would gladly deal with than a strong slither.

Because not only is he one of the best pushers, he is also exceptional at ganks and early\mid game group fights with his ult for harass. On top of that, he is entirely ability dependant, he can go the entire game with just boots, a bottle, and power supply and still be useful.

Essentially for the reasons stated by siknoz. He provides so many amazing things:

Extreme ganking potential through mass slows
Superior map control via wards
Pushing powerhouse
Mass DoTs in an AOE

without the need of any item in the game other than movespeed and regen. It lets him focus entirely on team support + pushing items, so your team really benefits in a 5th way just from his lack of item dependency which means he can rush items like Nome's and Astrolabe that help everyone on the team.

Can turtle, gank, push, contribute in team fights, give map vision, lane in an offensive or babysitter role and is basically ungankable. Retardedly versatile, even with no items. Insta ban/pick.

He's so freagin strong early. I personally will get him in fp if we have second pick. Something like cd, slither as first two picks. You can build any kind of lineup around him, he has strong laning/harassing, and he can push.

It's just impossible to gang him with his wards scouting the lane constantly. Crazy map control.
